High on Heroics, Low on Partyongarthography

Along with the tempering of my shit the last time I tried to shoot dancers at Hometown Heroes, I had this first encounter with Teddy Douglas to consider. At Red in ‘00, I think, back when I was shooting 30 frames per second instead of one frame per whenever. The fun starts around 1 minute 45 seconds.

Np. I got my nut about an hour earlier anyway, so I was fine (ho lord, ain’t I always?) with staying downstairs, close to the bar where ex-bartenders were tending to self and the smoking crater that Meistro left after his strong set* was still aglow. Unfortunately I missed that set, as well as Jackie O’s, but not Chris Burns’, who closed out the basement session and recently summed up the state of DC nightlife’s on DistrictSoul thusly.

… when I moved back here two years ago after college … it just seems everyone stepped their fucking game up. The renaissance is really starting to take place and it is only a matter of time before we get our shine from other people and cities that think DC is a stuffy place full of choads and lamers.

Trust: that’s 99% reportage and 1% salesmanship, coming from one of this city’s busiest promoter/djs. Burns and co-hort Joe L. and the Everybody Loves Music peoples have their pick of monstrously pedigreed yokels in curating the Hometown Heroes series. That they’re drawing a crowd that’s equal parts Nouveau Richester and State of the Union/Red alumnus says a lot about this night’s quality and appeal, and sense of fam, really. Unless you’re this guy.
