…
Holy shit. I feel okay about swearing because bastard, as in, “Crafty Bastards” is kinda a bad word. Or at least is used to be… well, so did “shit” for that matter. (Um, hellooo, have you not watched It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia?… they say “shit” all the time, on TV!) It’s no longer a bad word. Face it.
Expletives are necessary though because this past Saturday, THE ENTIRE CITY OF WASHINGTON descended upon Adams Morgan for the Crafty Bastards outdoor arts and crafts fair hosted by The City Paper. I didn’t realize this until this year, but apparently Crafty Bastards is a major destination on the Arts and Crafts circuit. These guys travel the country from fair to fair to hawk their goods, and it shows, I think those in attendance saw some really spectacular goods.
Some highlights included:
Mogo – Modern Goods from Scratch

Strawberry Luna – Prints, Posters, Design

Ryan Berkley Illustration! – Original Art + Prints

Miss Alison – Handmade Vinyl Accessories

And, Home Sweet – Block Printed Fabrics and Home Goods
The arts and wares of Crafty Bastards seemed to be all exceptionally well selected. It was inspirational to see a lot of the work represented. Next year I recommend finding a new location though, because walking around the aisles of the fair was almost scary it was so claustrophobic…
I also recommend finding random street art to pose your friends up against. Enjoy the photos…

Some photos and words from the lovely Shauna:
Alan & Jessica

I love when a couple can dress up and play off of each other’s outfits without looking like they’ve tried too hard. Alan (who’s almost 25) and Jessica (who’s almost 24) totally accomplished a simple synchronicity in their choices. Alan was wearing a shirt from Calvin Klein, a vintage belt, jeans from Urban Outfitters and shoes from Clarks. His favorite fashion trend is argyle(!!!) and he totally covets the look of John Cassavetes. I suppose that’s what you get for being BYT’s Another Movie Guy! As for Jessica, she was adorable in a dress from TJ Max, shoes from Rackroom, Earrings from and Indian Outpost in Williamsburg, VA and a handbag from Target. While Jessica doesn’t have any fashion inspirations per se, she does love to wear Autumnal colors and boots. Perfect time of year for such!
Whitney, 22

Whitney was wearing an adorable vintage dress and belt that she snatched from a coworker, Rayban sunglasses, Steve Madden shoes and electric blue tights from Lure. Her fashion inspiration tends to come from historical figures and Audrey from Twin Peaks. As for her current obsession trend-wise, she’s super happy to soon be decked out in big, warm, comfortable sweaters.
Nefra, 30

Nefra was so well put together with her earrings, belt, boots and dress all coming from Anthropologie, her cuff was from Tanzania, her handbag was picked up while thrifting and her shirt was a trusty staple from Target. Her fashion inspiration isn’t so much in the way Audrey Hepburn dressed, but rather how she carried herself. Nefra loves the vintage/retro but whimsical look while maintaining an easy-breezy appeal to her fall fashions.
Raymond & Fred

Raymond (30) and Fred (23) completely made me stop in my tracks. I mean, it’s not every day you see more than one well-dressed man in DC walking down the street. Raymond was quite particular in his fashions choices, wearing spectacles from Hoffman, a suit specially tailored for him (there’s even proof on the label of suit jacket) by Highcliffe Clothiers, a tie from Robert Talbot and shoes from Alan Edmonds. His style inspiration comes from Savile Row in London during the 1930’s. When questioned on what his current favorite trend was, Raymond said “I quite like being ahead of trends. I find that something I enjoy wearing tends to be quite popular several years later.” As for Fred, he was casually decked out in glasses by Nautica, shirt and belt by American Eagle, vest by Heritage, jeans by Pac Sun and shoes by Puma. And his favorite part about fall fashion is being able to layer his favorite pieces or wearing vests.
Ian & Tiffany

Tiffany (21) was wearing a jacket by El Vie Ellette, belt by Express, shirt from The Limited, boots by Aldo and a handbag by Coach. Her style inspiration comes from flipping through Vogue, and trying to accomplish those expensive looks she sees for much much less. Ian (25) was wearing a hat from Fred Perry, sunglasses he found in an H&M (but were not actually H&M), shirt bfrom J.Crew, jeans by BDG (of Urban Outfitters), shoes by General Surplus and his watch was by Phillipe Starck for Fossil. His fall favorite trend happens to be the monochrome look and his favorite fashion icon is Johnny Depp because he does exactly what he wants and doesn’t adhere to any rules.

October 6, 2009 at 11:08 amJesse you look pretty
October 6, 2009 at 5:42 pmUmmm the girl who takes the “sytle photos” Shuana… has horiible taste… The people look awful or rather they look like their fashion sense is from eons ago.. Try Jakandjil.com/blog thats more like real fashion. I mean do these people think that buying some crap at a thrift store makes them hip or mass produced junk. I mean go look at Purple Magazine, Numero, etc to get an idea… or better yet… try look at a runway show male/female from Paris for example from the last few years
October 10, 2009 at 12:21 pmAnother thing…. Vests and those arab scraves do not equal a fashionable outfit you dorks…
October 10, 2009 at 12:23 pmWhatever.
Except it’s not about fashion but style you dork…
October 10, 2009 at 6:27 pmExcept its not style… dork… its un original and boring.. Sounds to me you wouldn’t know what style is if it hti you in the face.. and style and fashion go together you idiot
October 11, 2009 at 1:59 pmWhatever, dickwad.
Except style is originality and fashion is fascism. And the two are like totally opposed.
And quit posting you horse ass, because nobody cares to know your lame sentiments you obtuse cunt.
October 11, 2009 at 3:21 pmOh all right, you can continue.
