“Never trust a big butt and a smile” — KRS-One
The good news was that last Friday night, the 88 crew has transplanted and expanded their outstanding Silver Spring party from Jackie’s Back Room — which was covered last month — to the newly reopened Gallery Restaurant & Lounge on East-West Highway. Gallery is actually more like an entertainment complex, sporting two floors and an outdoor area that everyone seems to want to call an alley. Maybe because that’s what it is. Plus Scion’s throwing money at their events now, which means higher levels of talent and production value gets thrown back at we.
The bad news, at least for me, was that the Red Line was still feeling the effects of that morning’s fire at the DuPont Circle station. The same fire that helped me get to work painfully hungover (it was Friday morning) and nearly an hour late. It’s a complete fucking mystery to me why we had to hold for 10 minutes at a time, several times, just yards outside the Silver Spring station. Whatever; I missed all but the last bit of Chris Burns’ set in the main room, and Version Sound’s roots set in the alley. DCist’s Eric Peterson was shooting the party and projecting his photos inside the lounge area.
After Chris, came Sam “The Man” Burns and all these dancers started popping off like someone hit an “on” switch. I mean, like as soon as he dropped the needle on that first plate, it was as if mf’s received the house music bat-signal and came running. Am I lying?

Outside Space Invader from San Francisco took over form the Version crew and was raising tempo and temperature. On the screen behind him, Flash animations from Marcalamari’s laptop were manipulated live. By this guy.

It was around this time, that I ran into these ladies and their gentleman friends.

One of them gave me a business card with a toll-free number and mention of some sort of service, and that I knew what they were talking about. I guess they’re, like, masseuses?
Back inside (phew) I ran into Sapna and this remarkable handbag she brought back from the future. As you can see, it’s easily weaponized.

The night crescendos around ? o’clock. Many Jager shots, Guinness stouts and the main room’s headliner Marlon D’s sound congealed into a thick blur …

… until ending around ….?? AM, another job well done for Dave and nem.
