Brew at the Zoo is as far as I'm concerned, a party. Once a year these regents of wildlife host a beer event at the zoo, ostensibly to raise money for animals. But I'm thinking it's really just an excuse for everyone to get drunk. I mean, let's be honest, the prairie dogs and the lions, they were nowhere to be found. Annnd, no one really seemed to care.
If you've ever been to the zoo in Washington, you know there's a pretty nice sized grassy area near the Rock Creek Park entrance, which is for all intents and purposes, transformed into an epic beer garden. Next year, I'm wearing lederhosen.
Really annoying thing about Brew at the Zoo? They'll only serve you about two ounces of beer at a time. Not nearly a rate fast enough to get you drunk. Key to the game? Get to know your local beer distributor. Flying Dog beer was kind enough to sponsor one of our photographers this year (Ben Droz), whose photos you'll find below, but in addition to being awesome they also poured me some beers that miiiight have been over the two ounce limit. Maybe.
Anyways, Brew at the Zoo gets a hearty thumbs up, I can't speak for Ben, I haven't seen him since I left him face down in the monkey house (what?!? as long as he's face down, he can't asphyxiate, and besides the monkeys seemed to like poking him better butts up... ).
Awesome bonus? The all-female, Brazilian drumming crew, Batala Washington. Check the out, they ruled. For serious.

God loves a cheerful giver.

you get a full pour in the vip tent .. but that's only if you're willing to shell out that cash.
the flying dog people are always rad and a good time, the new porter was good times too.
buuuut, my fav beer from the night - the espresso beer.
that's a pretty major v-neck there dakota
yeah, it's the deep V alright... pretty sure it was intended for breasty women, but ya know, sometimes... gotta just work it out
so bored with dull inelegance of dc.
I'm so upset I missed this.
Wow. Agrees with Ernest.
Yea, we (Flying Dog) don't really like to play by the rules too much, that's why we poured 4 styles heftily when others poured 2 meagerly. That's world-class, independent, local AND GONZO. Just like BYT. Glad you guys had a good time. See you Sat, Sept 12 @ the brewery in Frederick for GONZOfest, right?
Flying dogs, Flying monkeys, flying squirrels, flying beer... Brew in the zoo was definitely and awesome time. I still want to get those monkeys drunk....
