Granted, BYT didn’t throw the most awesome party ever at the Artomatic opening, like we did last year. Although, this summer we are throwing the most fantastic pool extrava-fuckme-ganzas on a weekly basis, sooo, ya know. If you aren’t there this Saturday, you will be declared at least partially brain dead, see for yourself.
Anyways, George Koch (picture below) umbrella man/founder of Artomatic, is a champ. If you’re ever in the same room as this guy, please shake his hand, and tell him “Dakota told me to say, what is up home skillet?”
Artomatic, for those of you new to the city, is DC’s most progressive, DIY art showing. Anyone can enter, and pretty much everyone does. Sorting through all the madness, you may even find inspiration, if not, certainly something very cool. One thing that’s VERY COOL about Artomatic right off the bat, is the fact that they utilize unused space for the event, as in, they contact building owners and put the art up in building that haven’t been leased yet in order to bring foot traffic through. Win, win, ftw.
The work (below) of Matt Sesow, one of my favorite DC artists… and the creepy portrait of the pope, by his wife Dana Ellyn.
If you haven’t already, be sure to check up on what it’s all about this year at:
55 M Street, SE
Washington, DC 20003
RAWK.
And don’t forget, there are 3 live music stages in the building. Tonight on the electric stage is (shameless plug): Mittenfields, Last Tide, Super Bon Bon and the Incorrigibles.

I’m so glad the photo on the front page for this article was of the nostalgia-drenched piece ‘Pepto’. So good. I wanted to buy the entire series. I’m sure someone will.
