Brightest Young Things

Talking about Fire, Inc and The Fabulous Stains yesterday got me thinking about my other favorite imaginary (girl) bands in the 80s and somehow, Sleez Girls, from (the semi-seminal) Times Square kept popping into my head. The movie came out the year I was born but the VHS cover of it in my local video store is one of my earliest movie/music memories.

It featured two girls running away from a mental institution and starting a (what else?) punk rock band. Bright lights, big city, Trini Alvarado, creepy Tim Curry narration, XTC and Sex Pistols on the OST, amazing red hair. You know you're wanting to rent it right now.

Tagline:

In the heart of Times Square, a poor girl becomes famous, a rich girl becomes courageous, and both become friends.

Here they are presumably live on air:

God loves a cheerful giver.
