Brightest Young Things

Not that you would know this by looking at her now but Diane Lane has done some serious movie rock starring.
I mean, remember Fire, Inc. in "Streets of Fire" and "Nowhere fast" ? I was so obsessed with that song in 5th grade that it was not even remotely funny:

Even if you don't have anywhere to go
You go down on the pedal and you're ready to roll
And even if you don't have anywhere to go
You go down on the pedal and you're ready to roll
And your speed
Is all you'll ever need
All you'll ever need to know
Darlin', Darlin'-

But it all started in 1981 with Lou Adler's "Ladies and Gentlemen, The Fabulous Stains", about a girl band featuring real girls (not women) and some amazing eye and hair work. Enjoy them at the start and the peak in the next two clips:

God loves a cheerful giver.

What a terrifically underrated film! Diane Lane and Laura Dern as literal Runways and young Ray Winstone doing his improbably best impersonation of a lead singer in a band much like The Jam. And Fee Waybill, lead singer of The Tubes, sending up the glam rockers that predated the new young punk bands. A must-see if you haven't caught it already.

Unfortunately, the movie is really bad. It does have some pretty awesome punk rock cameos though if I remember it right.
