September 16, 2008 at 6:06 pmGranted - this doesn’t make my top 20 Replacements songs (although it does make my top 20 videos) but everything from Let it Be onward ranges from good to great. Any band with a canon including Let it Be, Tim and Pleased to Meet Me could never be considered overrated. I should say “in my opinion” but the truth is any band with three records of that caliber in succession would qualify and it should be taken as fact. Give me an equivalent that you would toss that word towards.
To put it in Cale’s wheelhouse - a fair amount of Talking Heads is better than the rest per se but a similar streak excludes them from being “overrated” in any way. You may not like/love them but a level of respect is warranted if you know enough about them.
Semantics and I am cranky but the man who penned Alex Chilton, Androgynous, Here Comes A Regular, Kiss Me on the Bus, Can’t Hardly Wait - overrated???? I’m only drawing from 3 discs here…
