As part of our audio previewing this week we have a darling truffle of a band from New York (we're not holding it against them) just waiting for you to discover them:The Pains of Being Pure at heart just released their EP today (if you are in NYC, there is a party at CakeShop tonight) and are doing a mini North East tour this week, stopping by DC9 this Sunday.
And you should go see them.
Blogs have been buzzing about them a plenty, throwing around names of every band that you loved and love (My Bloody Valentine, Teenage Fanclub, Pastels) and rightfully so.
The music is wonderfully poppy and layered, without being saccharine sweet.
The lyrics are clever ("This love is Fucking Right" anyone? Everyone!)
and it is all wrapped up together in a perfect little package with a pair of boy/girl vocals like a bow on top.
If the My Favorite Dress ladies ever decide to throw a live band party, I will personally lobby for The Pains of Being Pure at Heart to play it.
But in the meantime, listen.
