The Honeydrips: Listening Party

The Honeydrips is Swedish singer/songwriter Mikael Carlsson. He’s opening for Jens Lekman this Wed at The Cat… and don’t tell my boyfriend Jens, but I’m actually looking forward to The Honeydrips just as much. His first official full length ‘Here Comes The Future’, released overseas last year, deftly jumps between awkward Morrissey pop songs and spacey New Order dance tracks, making me feel like I’m the middle cinnamon roll. We had him send over a little commentary on some tracks, listen up and wish you had a ticket for Wednesday:
Fall from a height contains sampled dialogue from Rebel without a cause and Annie Hall. Jon Munk, the guy who plays Alvy Singer as a kid in Annie Hall, actually contacted me, saying that he’d bought my album and was very surprised to hear his own voice coming out of the speakers! Turns out he’s a really nice guy. As for the song, it seems to be one of my most popular songs in America.

One of my personal favorites from the album. When I wrote it I imagined it much more pompous, with choirs and what not. The way it finally ended up is better though I think. A very lonesome song. |
This is a remix of Fall from a height by The Field that appears on the I Wouldn’t Know What To Do CD single. I like it a lot. Very different from the original. The Field is a Swedish techno act on the Kompakt label.
This song also appears on the I Wouldn’t Know What To Do CD single. It’s a shame that not a lot of people seem to know it. One of my personal favorites. The lyrics are just as obsessive and creepy as I like them.
If you aren’t able to pick up his tunes at the show, and don’t want to pay import prices online, I think you can get it here in digital format: http://www.klicktrack.com/shop/search.jsp?a=The%20Honeydrips&cp=176
Also some more tracks on his myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/thehoneydrips
Top 8 includes Dusty Springfield, Doris Day, and Tribe Called Quest. Nice.
And some more downloads on his site: http://www.thehoneydrips.com/
