Brightest Young Things

Bradley have you seen this gaga video?
Mike A.: no

Bradley: the gays are flippin' out linking to it from all the fuck over
I keep accidentally clicking on it
so I finally broke down and am watching it
it's crazy crazy
Mike A.: link?

Bradley: A) The lyrics are literally gibberish
there are some sort of coffins in the "Ga Ga Bath Haus"
Mike A.: link?

Bradley: she's crawling across a floor like kylie
Mike A.: link?

Bradley: a hairless cat
Mike A.: i can watch it or you can type it out

Bradley: and I think it's referencing twilight AND where the wild things are
here is the link
Mike A.: omg...finally

Bradley: and she just threw in some jester shit
it's like stephanie meyer threw up in pamela anderson's bedroom
Mike A.: ok. let me watch it and then i will get back to you

Bradley: oh and a fembot.
duh.

Bradley: keep me entertained
Mike A.: my stupid coworker is talking. hold on

Mike A.: okay:

a) The song itself is mediocre and could have been released by any third-place finisher on American Idol
b) the video is interesting (its kind of been done by Marilyn Manson a decade ago) but videos are the art form of the director, not the singer.

The only credit I can give Gaga here is for her "artistic direction" as Stephanie Germanotta in creating this alternative personality as a performance piece.

Bradley: her life is performance art

Mike A.: yes, and that actually could be art. we don't know her intent, but i still hold out that she might be brilliant.

that song is shitty though and now we are going to have to hear it in every gay bar

Why isn't this chat a post on BYT today? "The BYGays discuss the new lady gaga video?"

Bradley: the BYGays discuss a horrible song they will be forced to listen to all the time now.

Mike A.: would straight guys want to read that though?

Bradley: YES! who do you think that their girlfriends *just love* when they're drunk?

Mike A.: we're all screwed.

[end gchat]

God loves a cheerful giver.

I feel a gay revolt awakening.

The song is mediocre, shitty and horrible? Really? I wonder if we are listening to the same song.

This is an egregious Roisin Murphy avant-garde ripoff. If she weren't so politically helpful, I'd consider boycott.

These costumes are amazing though. The costume designer is a genius. Damn.

@ Toby: We embedded the song, so I'm pretty sure we're talking about the same one.

I should point out that THIS outfit by Alexander McQueen is amazing:

Its just not one of her better songs...a bit over-produced. I'm sure I will be dancing to it in a month (damn).

I simply love this new direction, Svets. Except this gaga just don't do it for me. Maybe they should be dancing to the Velvet Underground instead. Am I not right, Cale?

Who the hell does "Lady" Gaga think she is? She's a little JAP from the Upper East Side who used to try to be Vanessa Carleton when that was all the rage. She didn't have talent when she was playing Open Mic Night at NYU's most embarrassing freshman dive bar, The Bitter End (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_b2C20qN4Ps) and it seems she simply got worse. Is this what gay men are supposed to like? I appreciate the "her life is her own art" idea, but can we please stop allowing her to express her art through music? Honestly, this is one of the worst songs I have ever heard. Worse than that crap Usher tried to pull on us with "Yeah" (honestly, what the hell was the hook supposed to be in that song?) She really doesn't have a good voice and these dance moves are how girls used to dance during those awkward middle school dances. The routine at the end of Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion is better choreographed.

And yes, she can where high fashion/concept outfits well. She wears the ones that cover her face (VMA one or whenever her outfit requires a pound of make-up) best. She really has no beauty. She is just skinny. And her out-there fashion is really her only gimmick. That is where her expression of art should be - forget the music, she should just stick to being an empty shell famous for wearing outrageous outfits and doing coke. Aka, she should tag along with Paris Hilton as much as possible. She should be famous for nothing, but nonetheless famous. That odd 00's paradox which somehow works.

As for the gay revolt? It's already started. Michael Stripe and Ryan McGinley's "Anti-Gay Bar Gay Night" (at New York's BEast) is the sweetest breath of fresh air that the gay culture needed.

Gaga, thanks for getting MTV America to like you and promote gay rights and all, but you can call it quits on the music now. Keep wearing those concept outfits and I'm sure you will still remain a presence on gossip columns and in the household conversations of all teenage girls and twinks. Every now and then maybe "produce" something - look at Dr. Dre, he is still a household name and he "produces." Granted, he has a thousand times the talent that you will ever have, but he's still in commercials.

Alright, that's all. I know it's pathetic to have to voice your opinion as a comment on a blog. But it's more pathetic to buy into Lady Gaga's insanity.

@Chris - youre crazy - gaga is the most interesting thing in pop right now and this video is spectacular proof of that - madonna is beyond jealous at the kabbalah centre after watching that -

i liked hearing this also;

Originally this album was going to be a re-release of Fame but Gaga said:

"I think re-releases are unfair... It’s artists sneaking singles onto an already finished piece of work in an effort to keep the album afloat. Originally [my label] only wanted me to put out three songs and now it’s much more than that. It’s a new album’s worth of material."

She's a fucking genius. She's faking it every step of the way, laughing at all of us, and collecting paychecks. It's obvious that everything she's done is completely tongue-in-cheek, and better yet, she somehow got mainstream America to stop protesting shit like gay marriage and health care reform and "just dance." It's easy to hate her, but it's easier to just appreciate her for what she is -- a joke.
