Brightest Young Things

The president of the united states took a walk yesterday, and the awakening sun lit his path for the first time in weeks. He wandered through the rose garden, the briers less menacing and more rosy than they've been in months. He walked through the arboretum, where the willows lifted their soggy heads in greeting and the secret service agents brushed moss from their slacks, smirking at their own clumsiness. From the banks of the potomac, the murk stirred in blossoms as the fish slapped at the mud on the bottom, hunks of dirty ice crashing together as they tumbled over great falls. And on florida avenue, the president climbed onto the biggest pile of snow cinders in the city, anxious advisers clutching purses far below, and put his hand up straight, waving at a sleepy and surprised migrating hawk, who dropped a snake from its mouth which cracked into three equal pieces on top of the Burger King.

For the rest of us, it is still the cold and punishing season, but our great leader is four steps ahead of us in the future, where the wind is warm and flowers bloom. Let us follow him, into that verdant path, with eyes full of the nourishing light of hope, but with hearts still cased in the bud, protected against frost until change has actually come to Washington.

YIKES! You should really listen carefully to the lyrics in "When It's Springtime in Virginia". Kinda offensive.

"I can hear the darkies singing in cotton fields tonight." is the line I'm thinking of.
