Setting Sail With Party Bros: “OOOBayBay” Video World Premiere

If you were a certain kind of person, interested in certain kind of stuff (and lets face it, you’re reading this website, so you probably are that certain kind of person) the whole saga of the making of the first video for the Party Bros (aka Gavin Holland and Chris Burns) track “OOOBayBay” was inescapable this summer. The casting calls, the shoots and reshoots, the flyers, the controversy, and the inevitable question “Will this ish be any good?” were floating around everywhere. Thankfully Chris and Gavin were wise enough to recruit Patrick Longstreth (byt contributor, creationist museum enthusiast and video director extraordinaire) fresh off of his work with Juan McLean to help the process along.
With less than a 1000 dollar budget, an army of volunteers (in bikinis and otherwise, many of whom suffered bee stings during the shoot and persevered), Matthew Lesko, a 200 dollar rented stingray corvette (gotten off of craigslist from a “some dude trying to sell it”) and a cast of cameos that read’s like a “who’s who of your DC dance party needs”, something beautiful and hilarious (and very self-aware) happened.
The song itself samples my personal favorite jam circa ‘89. so it is only natural that the video takes inspiration from a number of 80s movie favorites: Caddyshack, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Sandlot, Back to the Future and that “Sound of silence” moment in the Graduate.
It is fast, it is fun, it is shiny, and considering the weather outside, it is EXACTLY what you need to be looking at RIGHT NOW
So without further a-do, lets all watch the world blog premiere of the final (tongue so deep in cheek, it may as well be in between teeth) product
directed by Patrick Longstreth and produced by Chris Burns, Gavin Holland, Patrick Longstreth and Tiffany Rose Goodyear
and now lets look at some photos from the premiere sail party the boys threw with DURKL on the Potomac (on board of “Celebrity”, which was a beautiful experience and highly recommended for all) which may as well be entitled “Pin a tail on the DC “hipster”", as well as a couple from the Wonderland official CUNT afterparty.

Wonderful video. Compelling and rich
September 11, 2009 at 9:25 amNice job. Reminds me of Coolio’s “Fantastic Voyage.”
September 11, 2009 at 10:27 ami was seasick for like 3 days after. the party bros!
September 11, 2009 at 10:41 amvideo has too many white girls.
Saved by the lesko laser.

I love everything about this. And NKOTB.
September 11, 2009 at 11:31 amThe woman with a bottle of Stoli. There’s something about her.
September 11, 2009 at 11:52 amNo one’s going to say it?
I’m on a boat
wait i’m confused. the license plate says california, but then you have a bunch of semi-attractive people who can’t dance and the question mark dude. obviously dc.
September 11, 2009 at 12:33 pmluke you fucking hipster
September 11, 2009 at 2:16 pmWhoa, is Luke’s dog posting comments on BYT now??
September 11, 2009 at 6:22 pmkush is the best dog everrrr.
ps video shoot and cruise were genius.
September 11, 2009 at 11:41 pmPedro, you wouldn’t believe how hard I personally tried to get some black beauties in this video. The three that signed on never showed up. Come on soul sisters, I’m ready for ya!
Thanks again to the 75+ people who helped make this thing a success. It was a big collaborative effort. I had sooooooo much fun. More great hilarious music videos are just ahead of us.
September 11, 2009 at 11:53 pmmy college friends find much humor in personifying my dog.
cosign on the lack of black beauties on the dc hipster scene…as ready if not more ready than patty longs.
it really was the right way to end the summer. so good.
September 12, 2009 at 8:02 pmsick lobster dress
September 12, 2009 at 8:47 pmThis video is ridiculously corny, I can imagine it was fun to make and all, but it seems more like a cliquish music video than anything more. Sorry but no one has said ANYTHING critical, a good question would be why not…
September 12, 2009 at 9:54 pmi know! shit, why such a derth of haters?!?
if it’s one thing BYT needs more of, it’s haters. we don’t have enough. haterish comments welcome, please, we never get enough.
September 13, 2009 at 6:13 pmthe video needed more gingers.
September 13, 2009 at 7:14 pmThat video was retarded…corny is more like it… Sorry to hate but if you want an honest opinion it u just got one. …looks like you should’ve have filmed the after party because as always the dakota pics are slammin. love that guy. :)
September 14, 2009 at 1:11 amHaha I like all the black women comments. I think I mentioned that to someone when I was on the cruise. Hit me up next time! That pose and face you see is just the tip of the iceburg. I can do magnum baby!
September 14, 2009 at 9:40 amLAME.
September 14, 2009 at 5:11 pmi hope you guys didn’t spend any $$$ on that video because it sucked, hard.
September 15, 2009 at 4:23 pmDo all DC scene girls look like trannies? Or just some?
September 16, 2009 at 10:31 amThat video was FRESH. So suburban 80’s. I would have liked to have seen bigger hair and a pair of uptight parents at the end. Part 2 should take place on that boat.
September 21, 2009 at 3:28 pm

This was the perfect event to end the summer..(yes sadly its over soon) but the love on this boat was so heartfelt. I really think this event was a nice slice of how are creative art scene can work together and create something dope! Looking forward to more from the Party Bros.
