Sara and Kim, aside from being totally hot and smart and fun (always good things) also host two pretty kick ass dance nights: PowWow (making its monthly return this Friday at RNR) and KICKS (at the Cat next week) and as everyone who has ever attended any of those knows, they do some of the most lust-worthy playlists in DC.
So, to get you kicking and screaming into the weekend, we had them do a sampler.
Put your headphones on, lock your office, listen and learn.
Take it away ladies:
Flamin Groovies - Shake Some Action
A favorite night-closer. The most prettiest song ever. EVER. You feel that intro deep down, melting your cold, cold heart. The Groovies are cool, but boy, can they do some crap covers. And they like to. A lot.
Shocking Blue - Send Me a Postcard
We mainly play this one to get Denman dancing. Luckily it’s good enough that everybody else joins in too; hell, it’s a total fucking classic. RIP Mariska.
Heatbreakers - One Track Mind
Too much junkie business.
Teenage Head - Picture My Face
Teenage Head are apparently credited as the Ramones of Canada…they tend to look absolutely ridiculous. It’s all very Degrassi-sounding to me. Soooorry, this song is still the shit.
The Scientists - Last Night
This song can get real sap-tastic on you. But I forgive The Scientists for it — it’s an awesome song, regardless.
The Only Ones - Another Girl, Another Planet
“I always flirt with death, I look ill but I don’t care about it…” I love these bitches. (Not as much as the Bay City Rollers, but still.)
Swell Maps - Let’s Build a Car
From Nikki Sudden’s post-punkish band — I have not a clue what they are talking about (unless we are really just building a car here. Are we?). But it’s all jangly and fun and the kids seem to dig it. Good times, good times.
Pandoras - In and Out of My Life (In a Day)
Don’t you love songs with parenthetical title add-ons? A cute ass-shaker with a great guitar riff from some
very fierce chicks. Fun fact: a gal named Julie Patchouli runs their “official website.” It’s as ristupulous as her name.
Cheap Trick - She’s Tight
I like songs about gettin’ some.
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Weapon of Choice
Yeah yeah, their older stuff is better. But don’t even try to tell me that this song doesn’t kick ass and incite people to thrash about sexily. Cause it does. Both. For serious.

everyone form an orderly line now
I can’t decide which totally hot and smart and fun woman I’m more in love with.

Denman - nice mention of Dramarama.
Last Cigarette is another great one by them.
February 28, 2008 at 2:37 pmDear Michael,
“Pick the one that puts out more?”
I’m going to hope that you’re joking since you’re talking about my kin here. Either way, nice job overlooking the hard work that these women do and only focusing on the fact that they’re women. You’re stellar.
February 28, 2008 at 3:36 pmI know both Kim and Sara well enough to pretty much make any joke. Ask them.
Secondly, I deliberately (because just about everything I write is very deliberate) worded it exactly the way that I did because I assumed (correctly it seems) that someone would come on and make a comment about how I was referring to them as whores or sluts, or that they put out.
Read it again. Now ask yourself if it could very well mean that neither one of them “put out” (sexually) which is why it could be a hard decision?
Now ask yourself if maybe it has nothing whatsoever to do with sex and instead refers to putting out as in putting out the best jams and set list.
Now ask yourself whether, if I meant the last part - putting out as a play on words referring to which one put out the best set - if you’re not the sexist focusing solely on the fact that they are women…not me.
Didn’t think about that one did you?
You’re welcome.
