BYT Empire

Brightest Young Things

So, I'm moving to New York City in May. This means - no more reviews for BYT, and no more DC dance parties for me in a couple of weeks. But that doesn't mean that we can't do it up until I'm gone, right?

This Friday will be my last party - Ready Already - over at the Red and the Black - although I'll still be playing at Drunken Jenga until May 15th. Myself and fellow music reviewer Matt would like to go out with a bang - so here's a little promo mix to pique your interest:

(also free for downloading)

Tracklist:

The Ting Tings - Great DJ (Calvin Harris remix)

Look, if you haven't heard a track by the Ting Tings yet, you need to crawl out of your k-hole and run over to literally any music blog on the Web. Although a full length effort is a ways off, we can still enjoy the few singles they've released - including Great DJ, which was remixed by Calvin Harris a couple of months ago. Predictably, he puts heavy disco spin on the track while retaining the same addictive hooks that make the Ting Tings one of the few blog bands worth keeping an eye on.

New Young Pony Club - Get Free (MSTRKRFT remix)

New Young Pony Club recently announced that they'll be canceling their Coachella tour date this year. This makes me sad - but as long as these guys reprise one of 2007's best records with an American tour, I guess I can't complain too much. Get Free is a complete jam, and MSTRKRFT makes it rock even harder.

The Fashion - Like Knives (Tiger Baby remix)

The Fashion is another one of those Danish bands that will convince you that there's something in the water over on the other side of the pond. This remix is part Crystal Castles, part Rapture - A total fist-pumper.

The Whip - Sister Siam

These guys played pretty much every day of SXSW, and I thought there'd be more attention being paid to them, considering they released a hell of a debut record last month. The eight-bit backbeat featured in the track will follow you to sleep, and will distract you at work for days to come.

Cut Copy - Lights and Music

So, I much prefer Hearts on Fire - but Matt really fought for this song, so I threw it on the mix. As Matt puts it, some of these tracks are a little more Depeche Mode - others, a little more New Order. But know that every track on this record comprise the best record so far in 2008. Don't be surprised if we rock multiple tracks off of this bad boy.

So, download the mix. Listen, enjoy, and come down to the Red and the Black. Yuengling is $2.50 until 11, and we'll be playing indie dance hits all night long - what more could you ask for?

p.s.On our last night of Ready Already, we will be joined by fun indie folk outfit Waking Lights - so, come early, and check these guys out before getting groovy and belligerent

Yes, I am leaving indeed. Shoot me an e-mail about the city - I'm looking around for a place to live in Brooklyn. I still have four weeks, I think?
