Olympia is a Motherfucker

DC only gets Olympia in small doses, even if it is a local band. Ever since forming from the ashes of Fairweather and Brand New Disaster the boys have been working non stop, and mostly out of town:
shortly after their first DC9 show they ran off to record in Boston, made a brief pit stop in DC for a few rollicking shows in the winter/early spring of 2006/7, including that pre-NYE weekend that almost killed us all, and have been on tour ever since, promoting their debut “Emergencies”.
Which is good for them, but bad for us as the only real way to fully experience the dynamo that is this band is to see them live.
We are talking, straightforward, catchy, face-melting rock, the kind you almost forgot people can make, and make right.
So, to celebrate the boys being back in town, and playing a relatively intimate (read: you will be able to taste the sweat) show at the Cat this Thursday we are doing a little listening party of some chosen nuggets from “Emergencies”.
Turn the volume up.
Olympia Is A Motherfucker:
Every band needs a good “fuck you” song, and this is ours. We recently
shot a music video for this song with Joseph Pattisall (Darkest Hour,
Good Clean Fun) and we filmed most of it on the streets of DC and at
the Rock’n'Roll Hotel. Sadly, we won’t be able to use the full title if
it ever airs on TV.. but people should be able to figure out the real
title easily enough.
Even Rome Had Sewers:
This song is one of our favorites to do live because it’s one of the
more energetic songs on the record. When we get to the drum break, it’s
awesome to have everyone on stage shouting along with the vocals.
This Ship Ain’t Gonna Sink Itself:
This is a drinking song. Or maybe a hangover song. When you wake up
and say “I’m never doing that again.” and then that night you’re right
back where you were the night before.
M-80:
This song is about infidelity, binge drinking, and violence. A
standard night out on the town for Olympia.
Bastogne:
This song is one of the first that we wrote as a band and it was on our
original five-song demo we sold at our first shows. It survived the
demo and made it on to the record as well. This song features our most
commonly misheard lyric - “this is the art of war” - which people have
told us they heard as “this is the autozone” and “this is the ottobar”
to name just a few.

Sick band! Seeing them live is where it’s at. The record’s good, but they bring it hard onstage.
