Brightest Young Things

This Saturday, Denman (whom you may have seen before at the Cat behaving like this:

and Steve EP are hosting a hardcore/trash punk/hands-up-in-the-air-like-you're-straightedge party @ The Cat called No Control which may or may not turn into a monthly.
No matter what happens, we welcome it open armed into the sea of cookie cutter fun.
To get your spirit in motion, they made a little playlist just for you:

and for the song listing:

From Steve (of fym productions):

The Descendents-Bikeage
The Descendents are definitely one of my favorite bands of all time and Bikeage is a true classic. I mean for real I'll fight you on this!

The Sex Pistols-Pretty Vacant
Love or hate the Sex Pistols you have to admit that "Pretty Vacant" rocks!

Bad Religion-No Control
God Damn I love Bad Religion…well old BR anyway!

Bad Brains-Pay to Cum
Bad Brains was the first punk show I ever attended back in 1985… man I'm old!

From Denman:

Born Against-Mother and Child
There has never been a band quite like Born Against. In my opinion, Sam McPheeters is a genius. And even though he pushed on with such amazing projects as Men's Recovery Project, and the Wrangler Brutes, Born Against was the band that really took underground (specifically hardcore) music, and turned it on its head. Mother and Child always seems to be a great sing along song……

Gorilla Angreb-Der Skal Drikkes Mere End Før
So, since I'm supposed to be the ambassador of more modern punk, let me roll out one of the best, (now sadly defunct), bands of recent times. Gorilla Angreb, from Copenhagen, Denmark, came up out of the
Ungdomshuset squat. What's great is that this band is totally accessible, yet still amazing at the same time. Der Skal Drikkes Mere End Før, (you tell me what that means….), is my favorite song by them, and will surely get kids grooving

So, since Steve and I are both teetotalers, (I still say edge), into our 30's, here's a little sXe music for you:

Judge-Fed Up
When rocking out to Judge, you never know if you really like the band, or like them in the same way you love all that hair metal. Truly, one of the most over-the-top straight-edge bands of all time (and that's
saying a lot!). Probably the only band to ever go on tour, and promptly break up after finding out how terrifying their fans were. This is their all time anthem.

Earth Crisis-Firestorm
Look, what do I really need to say about Earth Crisis? They were the band who took Straight edge to the next level. Without them we would never have achieved such uplifting movements as hardline, and such great social clubs as hate-o-four. Hearing Firestorm still sends shivers down my spine, and yes, I will be playing this!

Gorilla Biscuits-Hold Your Ground
If there ever was an anti-Earth Crisis, it surely must have been GB. So many colossal youth crew pile ons to scream devotion to New Directions. Absolutely a band that earned all the hype and following.
Nothing gets a room going quite like Gorilla Biscuits. Hold Your Ground was one of their more sXe songs……

And Finally:

Limp Wrist-I Love Hardcore Boys/I love Boys Hardcore
All those shows with big, sweaty, tattooed, muscular bro's, all crushed tight against each other, arm in arm, all night long, and no one has the courage to talk about how homoerotic this all is…..No one until Martin left legendary Los Crudos to form the quintessential queercore band Limp Wrist. This band just brings it, in sound, intensity, and politics. I have to say, I've seen them live, and they raised the bar on the term "face-ripping." This is the anthem that I wish more people would shout together.
