As far as music pedigrees go for “supergroups” go, Magnetic Morning comes with an almost unimpeacheably cool one:
Tagged “a sonic marriage of two indie heavyweights,” Magnetic Morning is Adam Franklin of Swervedriver and Sam Fogarino of Interpol, creating music as dark as it is dreamily beautiful. The dynamic duo is hitting the road with a full band immediately, in support of their debut LP, A.M., due October 21, on Friend or Faux Records.

They will stop in D.C. this Friday, October 17 to perform at Rock and Roll Hotel. So, as a sampler for the show and a special preview of the upcoming album we had Sam Fogarino pick a few songs for you to enjoy
MOTORWAY:
The lyrics are actually from the Kraftwerk song “Autobahn.” Adam flipped them from German to English - which fit beautifully to our original (and up until that point) instrumental track. Also, it’s kind of
fun to borrow from such a mechanical band for a big “rock” song….
THE WRONG TURNING:
Adam wrote the music to this song about 20 years before our first ever live show (Mercury Lounge/NYC, 12/2007). The band learned the song quickly, and added/expanded to it with only a few passes. It’s an odd one for Mag Morn…. The tempo and beat of the track are very similar to Hip-Hop, West Coast style at that! Which you would never equate with guys from, Interpol, Swervedriver, and The Album Leaf!
NO DIRECTION:
This one is one of my favs…. It started out as a piano-based song, with a mid-tempo drum loop that I created during an Interpol sound check…. Needless to say, this track changed a lot during the recording process! Adam changed the key in which the song is performed and added a ton of guitars with the aid of F.A. Blasco….. Thank God for that!!!
