Bred in North Carolina, residing in Baltimore and housed by Wham City, Future Islands is going to destroy Velvet Lounge tonight. The bill includes local sex-butcher trio, Exactly and you'd be retarded not to go. Think of this show as a treat, next time Future Islands comes through town it won't be so quaint- they're opening at 930 for Dan Deacon.

Have a taste of their milkshake:
"WAVE LIKE HOME" from Wave Like Home (Upset! the Rhythm, 2008)
This song was written just before we went into the studio to record
our last album, Wave Like Home. We stopped playing the song live last
summer because it didn't translate well going from a live drummer to
drum machine. Grey eyes link these sharp dawns...
"CHANGING YOUR LIFE" from Little Advances (self-released 2006)
One of the first songs we wrote as Future Islands, back in early 2006.
It's about making positive changes in your life and feeling good
about it. I made a music video for the song a few years ago for my
video art class in college, but haven't had a chance to put it on
YouTube because I have no idea how that stuff works. It's not a good
video by any means, but there's this one exciting bit where my roomate
Kim breaks a record in the kitchen!
"THE HAPPINESS OF BEING TWICE" from Feathers & Hallways 7" (Upset! the
Rhythm, 2009)
We recorded this song in Oakland, CA on our first US tour last summer
with our good friend Chester Gwazda. This song will be released on a
7" on Upset the Rhythm in April, the other side will feature
"Pinnochio," another new song. This song is about what Sam thinks
being in love is like.
"FOLLOW YOU (PANGEA VERSION)" from split 7" with Dan Deacon (307 Knox
Records, 2008)
This song was recorded in spring 2006 but wasn't officially released
until last summer on a split 7" put out by Durham, NC's 307 Knox
Records. I got fired from my job during these recording sessions
because I was taking so much time off to record. I was working at a
grocery store in Greenville, NC called City Market. It was an old
school grocery store, a mom & pop kinda place, you could even smoke
cigarettes while you shopped! Sadly, I just found out that they're
going to tear down the grocery store soon. There's a sick video for
this song by our friend Allen Cordell, we shot it in early 2007 in
Brooklyn. http://allencordell.com/

and did we mention the Velvet Lounge show tonight?
God loves a cheerful giver.
i saw future islands at red&theblack last year. i honestly couldn't get past the Jack Black carbon copy that the lead singer clearly was. not just his FACE, but his actions as well. it was a bit much. i remember the drummer being really talented. also, there were like 4 people at the show and this one chick almost threw up on me, and instead, sat next to me and threw up NEAR me. this was like a sunday show or something. dave was there too, he'll tell you.
also, whenever i hear "future islands" i think of the Ear Pwr song "future stars". why isn't anyone into them yet? they are better than all of this crap.
i think ear pwr and future islands are bffs and all.
we're trying to get ear pwr an end of may show in DC. since we love them equal parts as you.
yessssssss!
sorry i called it crap. i just think the Ear Pwr folks are the cutest/best things evarrr.
Ear Pwr is going to play at Comet Ping Pong with Exactly on May 22. Commence getting pumped.
Ear Pwr rule! I think this will be the first show of their tour if I'm not mistaken.
Future Islands' vocalist, Sam Herring, is not a carbon copy of Jack Black. Sam was like that before anyone ever heard of Jack Black. His mom and I think Jack Black is a Sam Herring wannabe and that Jack Black is the carbon copy. By the way, Sam's birthday is April 13 (at 2:20 PM-I know because I was there) if you want to wish him well, and Ear Pwr's duo are as intelligent and engaging off stage as they are exciting on stage
