When City-State released their CD "Monument" in May we did not have streaming yet. So with their show this weekend at Galaxy Hut, we jumped at the chance to allow you all to have a listen to their sweeping, pianos and guitars soaring sophomore record.
5 songs, just for you, with special notes from the band.
much more this weekend.
Great Lakes- The memory of the last day spent with a girl you were
about to break up with. Winston Yu (violin) and Jenny Petrow (cello) played
the strings on this track and really help bring this track to life.
Mary - A conversation with someone explaining that they're fine the way
they are, or at least not fucked up in the ways they imagine. We
recorded this one with Keny Ruyter, who gave us some cool suggestions
for backing vocals.
This Place - About the a specific part of DC, the consumer-ized worst
of the city. The line "Take nothing in, take nothing out" reflects how
the transient population contributes little to the area. Don Zientara
had a guitar with an alternate tuning laying around the studio and we
used that to add some harmonic variation to the pre-chorus section.
Arlanda Terminal - By far our poppiest song. Did you ever meet someone
on an airplane or while traveling, and in the few hours you spend
sitting next to them and talking, they can seem like the ideal person?
Then you disembark and never see that person again, and all that's left
is the memory of perfection.
You Wait-Wolves (A Study in Her vs. The Mirror Orchid remix) - A
different take on a pair of songs from our Wolves+4 EP. Daryl used to
play in a band with Mike, who plays drums in ASiH and is The Mirror
Orchid. ASiH has done some really cool remixes for the Soft Complex and
MIA and others. We ended up liking this version better than the
original.

God loves a cheerful giver.
