Brightest Young Things

In this weekly feature Nina (a real live breathing 17 year old-ed) will examine whatever song is currently at the top end of the charts and defend its “musical merits” to the best of her ability talk about it.

"Blame It" by Jamie Foxx

"Blame It" is not a great song.  But it just may have the.  Best.  Music.  Video.  Ever.

I guess I should have predicted this.  Jamie Foxx was, after all, a comedian.  His job was to do or say ridiculous things to make people laugh.  But then he got all "Ray" on everyone and since then he's been all about having a "serious" acting career and release "serious" R&B albums.  So, when I first heard "Blame It" I figured it was a return to comedic form.  Why?  Here's a sample grab of the lyrics:

Blame it on the Goose
Got you feeling loose
Blame it on Petron
Got you in the zone
Blame it on the a-a-a-a-a-alcohol
Blame it on the alcohol

Comedy!

Anyway, it's become a hit pretty quickly, and I must say, it's not that difficult to defend.  It's a pretty funny idea and song and it taps pretty much every convention of a popular song.

AutoTune? Check.  Catchy chorus? Check.  Alcohol references? Check.  T-Pain? Check x 1000.

But I don't want to talk about the song- I want to talk about the mind-blowing music video!!  Based on the folks who make cameos in the video, I would imagine that Jamie Foxx simply hit his keyboard and called whatever name he typed.  Because, of course, that is the only way Jake Gyllenhaal, Ron Howard, and Forest Whitaker would end up in a Jamie Foxx video.

IS THAT AWESOME OR WHAT.

The video also has a lot of red lights, nice cars, and dancing women.  Oh, and a guy in a panda suit.  I nominate this video for best comedy of the year!

Unfortunately I can't embed this masterpiece, but here's a link: CLICK

I've heard this song once and it sneaks into my head at least once a day.

There is an article in todays Express about this video. He apparently saw Ron Howard and said 'make my video'
