I Want My Music Videos!

January 29, 2008 by Svetlana Send to a Friend Send to a Friend

This week’s crop of videos purposefully DOES NOT include any of the ENDLESS Vampire weekend live videos that keep roaming the interwebs (I fell into that trap last week) or Arcade Fire’s latest (because I cannot deal) or any Yacht rock (because I would want to post them all)
Instead, some seriously fucked up (in a good way) gems:

The Futureheads: “The Beginning of the Twist”
Part A-Ha’s “Take on me”, part Beatles and part that chimp/Kim Kardashian video from “Fall Out Boy” and you get this Futureheads “behind the video making scenes” meta jam.
Should be obnoxious, but I am somehow enjoying it.

Check out this video: The Futureheads - The Beginning Of The Twist

Hercules & Love Affair [ft. Antony]: “Blind”
Disorienting.
Roman.
Disco.
featuring Antony of “& The Johnsons” fame.
I mean, how can you say no to this?

Cryptacize- “Cosmic Sing-A-Long”
Asthmatic Kitty breeds oddities (see Castanets and the like). Cryptacize is a California trio that have a song named “Cowhell” and a super basic but somehow insanely mesmerizing video for “Cosmic Sing-A-Long” out now, which kinda looks like something Tim and Eric would have dreamt up, but even weirder.
I am not quite sure what drugs they are on, but I would like some.
And you would too, probably.
Also, I think we should make it our mission to interview them/do a listening party/something/anything.

Phosphorecent: “At Death, a Proclamation
And while we’re going down that road, Phosphorecent, a man behind many a blogs favorite “Pride”, takes his clothes off, handles some objects and some animals, and makes “How is life on the road?” question seem a little less trite than usual.
Someone introduce this man to David Lynch and watch magic happen.

also

MGMT’s album is out for everyone to get in any store today, and they have a video for “Time to Pretend” out.
that they are not allowing me to embed
not me.
not you.
not anyone.
at least not through youtube.
which is why you have IMEEM.

live video of the week:

Lisa Loeb plays Ikea
Because Swedish furniture superstores are the new Letterman.

which then brings me to our (sorta, kinda) vintage video of the week:

Lisa Loeb’s “Stay”
Remember the time when Winona was not a kleptomaniac? When Ben Stiller was not a household name? and when Ethan Hawke did not seem annoying but someone you really really really wanted to make out with?
If you do, then this song is ingrained so deep inside your psyche it may have to be surgically removed one day.

feel free to post your picks in the comments.
