So, somehow, several good songs got AMAZING videos to go with them.
Don't you just love it when this stuff happens.
In other news, 3rd week into this column, I am officially now slave to youtube.
Remember me in your prayers.
oh yeah and comment with your favorites
Premieres:
Robbers on High Street "Crown Victoria
Robbers on High Street are playing DC9 on February 1st, and while some of their efforts have not been met with the highest of hypes, "Crown Victoria" is a fine, fine pop song, and don't anyone else tell you otherwise.
Supergrass: "Diamond Hoo Haa Man"
Amazing song.
Video NOT starring the band. Its all just so meta, you know. I know, I know.
Kills: "Cheap and Cheerful"
Lets throw up.
Lets clap some hands.
Lets whip out some maracas and wear some eeeeeeeextreme eye makeup....and then, then we got ourselves a video both cheap and cheerful.
As a side note, I am finding myself somewhat excited for the Kills new record which is coming out in March on Domino.
They do dark AND funny well.
Live fun:
Vampire Weekend: "Mansard Roof" / "The Kids Don't Stand a Chance" / "Walcott" (Live on the "Take Away Show")
not 1, not 2, but 3 videos of everyone's favorite new "tongue so hard in cheek it may as well be between teeth" band.
The RNR Hotel show on February 6th has been sold out for weeks.
Do you have your ticket?
Nostalgia that isn't
Bruce Springsteen "Girls in Their Summer Clothes"
Oh Bruce. Who cares if it winter? Who cares if my summer clothes are in a box under my bed? Just sing to me. Now.
Some aspects of this video are so sweet and melancholy I am even willing to forgive you that Bonoesque grandeur with the sweeping skies and whatnot.
Nostalgia that is
Morcheeba "Otherwise"
Morcheeba has a new video out. You can watch it here. But things have not been the same since Skye left so lets just sit here and remember how perfect she was:
A specimen like you
I would love to obtain
I asked a tedious guy if he'll tell me your name
I'd love to impress you
With a back somersault
God loves a cheerful giver.
yes... we all miss Skye but the brothers of Morcheeba continue to crank out amazing work and this latest effort is right in line with their previous efforts. Judie Tzuke was never noticed in this country and is long overdue. I hope this gives her the exposure she deserves, and look forward to seeing Morcheeba performing in town again...
