I Want My Music Videos!

January 14, 2008 by Svetlana Send to a Friend Send to a Friend

Since I spent the better portion of the weekend sick with only my TV and my computer as entertainment, I had plenty of time to catch up on the new batch of videos that are clogging your inter and cable webs.
One thing is for sure: KATE NASH IS EVERYWHERE.
And while I like her eyes hadow choices and hate her hair, and appreciate how everyone wants to milk the whole “next Lily Allen” element, what with a song named “Dickhead” and all, BUT whoever decided that she should be on MTV every ten minutes (quite literally, her videos/chit chats are used before EVERY commercial break) needs to look up the words: “overexposed” and “inevitable backlash”.
And the sooner it comes the better for re-establishing the necessary balance in the universe.
HYPE KILLS, KIDS.
So, to do my bit, have these (they also all sound the same-ish to me):

aside from this one, which is kinda scary, which makes it, well, you know, awesomer than the rest.

meanwhile in non-Kate land

Nick Cave: Dig Lazarus Dig
I had this conversation about Nick Cave this weekend. It was about how some people never get Nick Cave and how some people would die for Cave. So, if you’re in the latter group, this video should make your week: as moody and demon possessed as it can be, Nick will, much like Lazarus, never find rest.

Moby: Alice
Andreas Nilsson has worked with Knife and Joze Gonzales creating little unsettling phantasmagoria gems that wouldn’t be out of place in a Jan Svenkmayer movie and so it is no wonder that Moby tapped him to create his new video for his much maligned new single “Alice”. Moby always being all cutting edge and all about ecstacy, you know.

Goldfrapp: A&E
Last week, the single leaked.
This week, Alison takes her gentler self on a walk through the woods in this video that has been as unavoidable as the Spice Girls circa 1996.

Dirty on Purpose: “Audience in the Room”
I love Dirty on Purpose. And feel more people should love them too, so you get this.

now for our “live” video:

MGMT at David Letterman
The goddamn show is sold out. Since when does the Cat pre-sell backstage shows? Shouldn’t there have been some kind of a public announcement for this?
In any case, MGMT went to Letterman, wore some capes and played “Time to Pretend” every-boy’s-with-a Peter-Pan’s-syndrome favorite song. Mine too.

random tidpit of joy

Ozzy Osbourne auditions for CNN
enough said. Best part, hands down: As Anderson Cooper calmly introduces Ozzy trying to make the whole thing “mysterious”, Ozzy screams “Can we make this faster? I’m not even getting paid for this”

new Jamie Lidell
working hard on the funk. for you.
sososososo good.

and now finally we get to our:

almost vintage gem

Telepopmusik Breathe
Because…baby, its cold outside, and if you can’t afford a tropical getaway, you may as well sip on this.
And just breathe.

Milly Says:

I seem to notice during America’s Next Top Model marathons that MTV heavily promotes a different artist each week a la Kate Nash. Songs and clips from the artist of the week get integrated into every ad and promo on the network, even when they aren’t necessarily appropriate.

There’s actually a worthwhile performance of Rilo Kiley busking in New York from an MTV promo. I assume it is available on YouTube.
