Brightest Young Things

Once again, here's your weekly dose of Humpday Hysteria!

DAVE NADA VERSUS ORLANDO VILLEGAS

This will be ridiculous. It's Friday the 13th, and easily one of the highest profile international exports form DC, Dave Nada has challenged his deep house loving, Spanish speaking alter ego to an epic dance music duel. Not even the videos below can do this justice. Frightening. Frighteningly great.

DERRICK CARTER PLAYS TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO ASSOCIATION

A bastion of the Chicago house scene, Derrick Carter is a seasoned veteran master of the sound. If you like your house funky, electric and filled with a most penetrating groove, this is for you. It is a fantastic moment to have him in town. Do check this out. T & T stays open until 4 or 5 AM as well, so it's THE late night look of the weekend.

AC SLATER, DJ ICEY and 2RIP PLAY SNATCH @ MUSE

An absolutely eclectic Friday at Muse. AC Slater of the famed NYC Trouble and Bass crew last played in DC for Nouveau Riche earlier this year, and brought the house down at that special, Rock and Roll Hotel main room event. Having his knob twiddling dubstep on the same bill with the techno powerhouse DJ Icey and local favorite 2RIP will be most definitely different. Having AC Slater in town though, always a plus. Do check this out.

Wednesday, November 11th

Mechanix @ Steve's Bar Room featuring Sean Gone, Kimozaki and live instrumentation by Joey B. If you love your music deep, afro and funky, this is an absolutely fun time.

Thursday, November 12th

Baltimore's TaxLo party at Sonar presents PEACHES with MEN (mem. of Le Tigre), Ponytail and the TaxLo DJs Cullen Stalin and Simon Phoenix. Having seen Peaches on her last DC stop, she's the diva that all of the other dance divas out there right now wish they could be on their best night.

Ontario's Jeff Milligan headlines at Electric Cabaret at Muse with an all vinyl tech house set.

DJs Doc Rok and Cold Case present Beat Market Thursdays, an electro, club, bass and mixed style weekly upstairs at the Rock and Roll Hotel.

Little Miss Whiskey's Golden Dollar presents one of my favorite DJs in the land, Delaware's DJ Bis (who's been in town a LOT more as of late) with the consistently solid Trevor Martin

The new Thursday night third floor party at DC's Muse presents Ackshun Jackson, Jackie O, Reed Rothchild and local rapper K-Beta.

DJ Kimozaki's Sounds From the Underground at Spot (1214 8th Street) presents a night of deep house and afrobeat with Hermon Farahi on the congas, and timbale and Djembe players adding Afro-Latin flavors.

DJs PVA and Mixedblood keep the minimal and tech house vibe strong at Jospehine's Gold Room.

Friday, November 13th

Dmerit (Micah Vellian and Outputmessage), the best kept secret in the area, DJ their Flat Out! party upstairs at Rock and Roll Hotel.

Sova, the espresso and wine center of the Atlas District, has gotten into the event game with their Sova Sessions, a great down tempo weekly event. This Friday, it's DJ Sean Gone behind the decks.

Bmore's Hip Hop Dan, who has toured nationally with the Neptunes, is at the 9:30 Club Backstage. 11 PM start!

Trevor Martin and DJ Bis again this weekend, this time for "Reignition" at Wonderland Ballroom. Yes, there's always a lot going on, but you're a fool if you don't catch Bis somewhere this weekend.

Saturday, November 14th

DJ Stereo Faith's Feedback party brings Tabi Bonney alongside Stereo Faith, Jackie O and Lil' El for a fantastic event at DC9. Really, in the midst of all of this Wale discussion, let's not forget that Tabi Bonney is an amazing rapper, as well as the director of choice for pretty much every rapper looking to make it big from the DMV, with constant video airplay for his clips on MTV and MTV related networks.

Richard "Humpty" Vission plays at Ibiza celebrating his new track "I Like That." A great chance to see a house music legend.

Steve Starks, Sean Gone and Ratt Moze at Jimmy Valentine's for Major Threat.

THE MONTH AT LARGE

Baltimore’s FALL MASSIVE headlined by Texas electro winner Wolfgang Gartner is at the Paradox on November 28th. Fur brings Above and Beyond on November 14th, David Guetta, on November 19th, DC legend DUBFIRE on November 21st , Paul van Dyk on November 25th, and KASKADE on the 28th. Baltimore’s Quarter has UK grime/dubstep DJ/producer Joker on November 19th. 9:30 Club brings Deadmau5 on November 23rd. DARUDE, of “Sandstorm” fame, is at Ibiza on November 28th.
