Finally unplugged from the Electric Zoo, here's this week's Humpday Hysteria.
Tremendous weekend all around for the EDM community with Electric Zoo, which definitely had something for everyone. There's certainly more in depth coverage of the festival here on Brightest Young things, with more to follow tomorrow as I had the opportunity to catch up and interview Andy Butler, the auteur behind the masterful Hercules and Love Affair concept, who DJ'ed alongside the legendary Frankie Knuckles on Sunday afternoon at the festival. We spoke of his latest "Sidetracked" mix, as well as the new album forthcoming, with the new lineup additions to Hercules and Love Affair. DC had the fabulous Buzz reunion at Ibiza, and the next few weeks look positively exciting all around.
I'd definitely like to have a more localized focus this week, as there's a ton of really intriguing and entertaining things happening in the local community of note.
QUICK LOCAL NEWS AND NOTES
- Expect the video for Gavin Holland and Chris Burns' Party Bros collaboration Oooh Bay Bay to drop by the end of the week. I was lucky enough to take part in the video itself, as well as attend the boat junket around the Potomac screening last night, and it would definitely appear as though the video will certainly be a good way to attract eyes to the burgeoning DC underground.
- If you've been anywhere around Will Eastman as of late, he's fairly excited as remixes from Nadastrom, Tittsworth and Dmerit are rolling in for his upcoming single "Feelin'," and they're apparently as solid as the talents of those who crafted them. Eastman's had one helluva year, and congratulations are in order as just last week, he opened for the Pet Shop Boys at Constitution Hall. Well done.

- Automobile company Kia now enters into the urban lifestyle market in a manner most similar to competitor Scion with the "Kia Soul Collective" tour which rolls into a DC warehouse on 3330 New York Avenue on September 17-20. DJ's Stereo Faith, Chris Burns and Reed Rothchild join headliner Wale on the 18th, and Dave Nada, The Nouveau Riche trio of Gavin Holland, Nacey and Steve Starks, and Garutachi's Ca$$idy round out the bill as well with shows featuring the noise dance of Dan Deacon, the Creepers and a private show featuring MGMT as well. More to come!
HOT HUMPDAY DOWNLOADS

"The Vibe Conductor" DJ Stylus has been locally holding down the DJ scene for over a decade. With roots in the development and success of a great percentage of the weekly DJ and nationally and internationally recognized DJ population in the city, Stylus himself is a well acquainted and talented selector and remixer, and two weeks ago made available his set from new hotspot Little Miss Whiskey's Golden Dollar on the H Street, Atlas District Corridor. A soulful blend of hip hop, afrobeat, radio friendly classic pop, freestyle, and enough underrated B sides to leave you scratching your head and dancing in the streets, it's easily one of the most worthwhile downloads you'll make this, or any Wednesday. Download Part One and Part Two, set aside some time, and let the groove whisk you away. A true winner for sure. Do check his blog at vibeconductor.com for more!
As well, related to Stylus, is an oft collaborator, Deep Sang. Yes, I'm fairly sure anybody from DC reading this is aware that the guy can throw down when it comes to disco, funk, R & B and hip hop and make one soulful boogaloo stew, but if not from here, or *GASP* not aware, do check his Myspace at http://www.myspace.com/deejayholiday and grab something. It'll change your day, and put a smooth glide in your stride for sure.
As well, if angst ridden you couldn't make the Electric Zoo Festival and want an idea of what you missed, the kind folks at Sirius/XM live simulcasted sets from all over the event, and more than a few are located HERE for download. Armin van Buuren, David Guetta, Chus and Ceballos, Deadmau5, Ben Watt, Chris Lake, Markus Schulz and NUMEROUS others. available for your entertainment.
