Does it Offend You YEAH?

Does it Offend You YEAH?

For a band that never really intended to be a real band Does It Offend You, Yeah? are doing pretty well for themselves. Their dance-party ready/bass heavy tuneage (to quote NPR: The British electro-rock band infuses its ambitious and chaotic music with bass slaps, cowbells, and signifiers of ’80s pop, not to mention healthy doses of electronic screeching. A go-to remixer for the likes of Muse and Bloc Party, the band makes music suitable for ravers and rockers alike). has gotten them a big pile of blog/festival circuit buzz and an opening slot with Nine Inch Nails and they are stopping by DC9 tonight, which, in our expectations thay will probably end up burning down.

Here is a little listening party to wet the appetites, with the band telling you what is up:

We Are Rockstars - Some people think that this is a bragging song about us being rock stars. It’s actually about the internet phenomenon where everyone portrays themselves as rockstars on their web pages. When myspace came along people would photograph themselves in rockstar poses, collect fans/friends and try and make themselves seem popular and interesting. This is just a song documenting that.

Dawn of the Dead is a song about moving on with your life. It’s also slightly about zombies as you can see in the video. The video was shot by Ace Norton who makes increadible videos, check them out! This is one of those songs you can put your own meaning on because we want to keep the real meaning hidden.

and finally:

Battle Royale - This song is named after the Japanese film, in the original version of the song there was a sample taken from the film at the beginning. If you haven’t seen the film, it’s about a class of unruly Japanese teenagers who are placed on an island and forced to kill each other with various weapons ranging from guns to hammers, the winner is spared their life.

Want more:
myspace up and stop by Liberation tonight.

Alan Says:

I’m excited about this show. Should be way fun.

Svetlana,

I’ve got a giant Battle Royale poster in my apartment :-)

Also, you forgot the best part: if the Japanese kids don’t kill each other, their necks explode.

Svet, I’ve seen that movie, it’s so so absurd! Totally into it.

What I’m not into, though, is these dude’s wardrobe choices. All over prints?! Is this 2006? American Apparel makes a Ski Mask now? Trucker hats and stonewashed, wiskerwashed jeans, oh my.

This band really needs a makeover. Or they could just stop.

Dandy Warhol Says:

I feel you Ed. I could personally never like a band if they have a bad sense of fashion.
