Why is this embarrassing?
February 26, 2008 at 5:48 pmbc of the band “repping” dc….
February 26, 2008 at 6:13 pmadam, where do you hang out?
February 26, 2008 at 7:19 pmi hang out at the black cat, rnr hotel, dc9, and probably sticky rice dc once that opens (keeps fingers crossed)….where do you hang out eddie?
February 26, 2008 at 8:13 pmmainly at your mom’s. dc9 is a short walk from my house and i go there, but i have friends that work at the cat so i go there, too. rnr hotel not as much, but i do like it and i used to live in that hood. i like ESL and occasionally bossa in ad-mo. what is sticky rice dc and where’s it opening? i am so behind. anyway, i was wondering where you hang out because i just *know* that you can’t possibly be as negative in person as you seem to be on here. please post your picture so that when i see you i can punch you in the balls and then buy you a beer directly as a show of good will.
so you hate these bands? who would you have had represent dc? how about thao nguyen (sort of dc)?
February 26, 2008 at 8:40 pmOk, I don’t agree with Adam 100% but he’s kinda right – these bands are pretty nerdy on the whole – none of ‘em could remotely be considered dangerous and that’s exactly what D.C. is sorely lacking. Straight up danger.
February 26, 2008 at 9:37 pmOkay. So what bands from DC should be playing?
February 27, 2008 at 8:20 amEddie!!!! thanks for letting us know what bars you lived/have lived near…you know we were dying to get that info!!!
I think DC should just take a pass until we get at least two decent bands from the area…dont cha think???
We are going to be the laughing stock of SXSW…then what will we do??
There aren’t even two bands from this area that you like? That seems kind of sad. What bands do you like?
February 27, 2008 at 9:51 amit is sad…sad for the bands.
the lastest besnard lakes and magnetic fields are pretty good…ive been enjoying those lately. the she & him is pretty much a let down…i was looking forward to that. really looking forward to the new sun kil moon coming out in april. thats all i can think of right now..
None of these bands are dangerous? Just what qualifies a band as being ‘dengerous’? What does danger have to do with music?
February 27, 2008 at 10:33 amI haven’t heard the Besnard Lakes album. I think “Distortion” is okay but slightly less good than “i” (and much less good the “69 Love Songs.”) I find it takes me a while to warm up to their new albums, though, so my opinion may change.
As for the DC bands playing SXSW, I think Georgie James and Exit Clov are great. Although the other bands aren’t really my cup of tea, they are good at what they do (with the exception of Samantha Murphy, who pretty much sucks.) Anyway, that’s my unsolicited two cents. Back to being bored at work.
February 27, 2008 at 10:49 amadam, so you are basically saying you have absolutely NO bands that you like from this area. come on. not even one? again, just out of curiosity – do you like thao nguyen or no?
February 27, 2008 at 10:52 amno, i dont like her.
i was a big fan of Canyon before they broke up. Justin Jones is good if not a little bland.
im pretty fucking stoked pash is starting to get the attention they deserve and are going to this
February 27, 2008 at 12:16 pmwell adam, not everyone can be as good as that band you love so much, the spice girls. lol one would have thought you’d be easier to please. tell us what you want, what you really, really want.
February 27, 2008 at 12:17 pm“eddie Says:
well adam, not everyone can be as good as that band you love so much, the spice girls. lol one would have thought you’d be easier to please. tell us what you want, what you really, really want.”
i dont even know what this means.
February 27, 2008 at 12:36 pmWhy isnt Kix on this showcase? The are both dangerous and local.
it’s overlooking bands like Kix that makes me think this website has lost touch with the scene.
February 27, 2008 at 12:38 pmdid you not proclaim your love of the spice girls on another post?
February 27, 2008 at 1:00 pmAm I the only person that thinks Holiday is the best Magnetic Fields album to date?
February 27, 2008 at 1:19 pmno, i did not.
id be proud if kix were representing dc…too bad theyre from bmore.
it must have been another adam that posted the last comment here:
http://www.brightestyoungthings.com/music/sugar-and-spice-girls/
cale – i do think a couple of songs are silly like deep sea diving suit for example, but desert island and a couple of others were nice. MF is ok, but the low vocals get to me after a while.
February 27, 2008 at 1:32 pmthat was not me posting about the spice girls mega mix…
is there any way to cancel this showcase without having to pay some sort of fee? i think if we really try we can maybe provide 2 decent bands by next year.
February 27, 2008 at 2:49 pmyou know if you guys ignored the negative commenters like adam and others then this site would be a lot better to read and the negative commenters would look like the stupid assholes they really are. see the georgie james and jimmy valentine’s threads for examples.
February 27, 2008 at 2:49 pmKix is from Hagerstown, but they could bring it from it from Hammerjacks to Jaxx if you know what i mean.
February 27, 2008 at 2:50 pmcan we please ban “just a thought”…
February 27, 2008 at 3:09 pmban yourself
February 27, 2008 at 4:38 pmeddie…leave me alone. i dont need you bullying me while i give my opinions on the DC music “scene.” good day to you sir!!!
February 27, 2008 at 4:47 pmBy danger, I mean ‘on the edge’, ‘pushing the envelope’, ‘being unpredictable’. Or even just ‘loud’.
February 27, 2008 at 5:13 pmwhile in theory i agree with ‘just a thought’, i find it hard to resist not only egging adam on, but telling him what i think of him and his negativity.
for example: adam, your music taste is shallow, your comments are not constructive and they lack substance, you spend all day thinking of shitty things to say while you tug on your baby dick, you hate local bands because you never made it as a musician due to your mediocre drumming skills and you are a human bag of shit.
the end.
ok, that was more fun for me, personally.
music taste shallow??!!?? my word eddie…
i believe youre the one who actually LIKES the bands listed to play this “showcase”..lets just all calm down, cancel this “showcase” and start planning for next year. im trying to help.
you’re silly. silly, i tell you. you silly little freak.
February 27, 2008 at 6:23 pmoops, that was me ^ i accidentally clicked on my retired comment name thingy.
February 27, 2008 at 6:26 pmSOJA should be playing this!!!
February 27, 2008 at 11:50 pmra ra rasputin, lode runner, and bottles/cans are all bands that should rep DC. i’ve shared the stage with all of them and think they toe the line with that “dangerous” territory. they are also fun and don’t take themselves too seriously.
February 28, 2008 at 9:51 amI think this is a great lineup. Not ALL of these acts are my cup of tea, but I think it’s really interesting seeing all of these indie pop bands coming out of DC and making something of themselves. Personally, I’m sick of all of this noise-distortion-garbage coming out of DC… Georgie James, Exit Clov, Jukebox the Ghost, Pash… at least they make people have a good time.
