By now you likely have a decent idea where you are headed on your lovely August night in the wonders that are D.C. Goodie two shoes for you! Now let me tell you where you are headed BEFORE that.
Don't even ponder that boring work crowd happy hour with their stilted conversation coupled with inappropriate leering for another minute missy. Fancy dinner sitting outside sweating into your mussels (didn't read Kitchen Confidential eh?) while the traffic idles next you - no way mister! You have better things to do, and I am just the man to tell you what that is.

Long in the tank for local faves The Caribbean, it has been my pleasure to see their live act grow over the years to the point that it finally equals their incredible recorded output. The band has become that indie cliche, in so much that they are a draw everywhere but their home city, but that has taken a turn for the better. It didn't require much to prod me into a hearty recommendation in the past but I can honestly say that The Caribbean is now required attendance as a live act and by the attendance at recent shows I am far from the only one that feels that way. The insularity of playing as a trio has turned them into a road tested machine marauding as an expansive and engaging creature that thrills and delights. Challenging to the mind - but hitting you square in the gut, the band attacks their material with a gusto few can match.
Each of the members is astonishingly creative and never disappoints and when you have the cache of killer songs that the group carries around in a stylish satchel - well - that's a recipe for magical nights. Thats not even factoring in the possibility of summer beards on these snappy professionals!
Opening will be labelmates All Tiny Creatures, with their drone inspired compositions. Word on the street is that they are not to be missed and in case you haven't noticed, Hometapes has been batting a pretty high percentage of late as far as killer acts go.

Now the real joy is that the goodies get underway with a 6 o'clock door, so you can hustle right in from that boring office job or bike your tight little buns on over from your underemployment bar tour. Hitting the air guitar with a vengeance? It's on the way. Feeling the fffever? It's on the way. Chili on your smokes? It's on the way. Get the picture shorty? No matter what you are doing later you should be there squares!
Solly's has become a favorite music destination (enough so that I did a residency for several months not long ago) and the room on the second floor just has that good time vibe going so don't miss out. See you after work (is for jerks.)
Solly's - 1942 11th Street NW (11th and U - not sure if they still have the cool window bandage where the car went through it one night.)
God loves a cheerful giver.
