Come Early For
It’s almost Christmas time and the end of Hannukah, I think? I’m sorry, I went to Catholic school for 12 years, I have no idea.
So… Happy Holidays. OK That’s better.
After you all are done last minute gift shopping and running around Pentagon City Mall and Georgetown like headless chickens, check out of some of the rad openers that will be in town this weekend.

Sarah Borges and The Broken Singles (Dec. 20th at Iota)
http://www.myspace.com/borgesrocks
Sarah Borges brings her sexy, sultry folk to the District, and there is no better place than Iota for her to strut her stuff.
Described by some as “twang noir” Borges, who is not from the depths of the south but from Boston, purrs and roars and wields a mean guitar. Most folk does not come this sassy, and we should all welcome some spice in our Saturday.
Plus Justin Jones is pretty amazing in his own right.

Lucy Roche Wainwright (Dec 21 and 22 at 9:30)-

Sounds familiar right? Obviously, because she is everyone’s favorite gay man extraordinaire’s sister. While Rufus dazzles us with his own musical talents on the piano, Lucy will hold her own against her brother at the 9:30 Club, for not one, but two nights. With an acoustic guitar and a voice that will make even Feist jealous, the female Wainwright is surely not to be missed. Plus, you know those two will play at least one together. The sibling fights have long been forgotten by now.

Mas Y Mas (Dec 21 at The Cat)-
http://www.myspace.com/masymasymasymas
Well, Mas Y Mas is one of the first bands that ever wrote to us (back in the shitty, shitty, blogspot days) And we always looked forward to it because
a. they seem a smidge insane
and
b. they are definitely more than a smidge catchy.
Tongues so deep in the cheeks we don’t even know how to classify them but to quote their “sounds like” section on myspace: Harry Belafonte has spread the Calypso’s fame throughout the world. And steel-bands have given it a new expression.
If this makes sense to you, you’re in for a treat on Saturday.
(well, you in for a treat no matter what, as New Rock Church of Fire Rocks )
