There is still a few more days left to enjoy “non-inaugural” events and bands in DC so make the most(est) of it, starting today:
Tonight, Silver Lake’s (aka, the 2nd most obvious place to be from if you’re an indie band in the US, but don’t hold it against them) Local Natives are playing @ Galaxy Hut (tomorrow they move across the state line to Solly’s before heading onto bigger and better things). And this is why you should get into it:
Firstly, check out this “Airplanes” number from their soon to be released “Gorillas” debut:
Do you like it?
Good.
You’re not the only ones, with (an increasing number of) blogs being all over their 3 person harmonies, flip-switch-and-reverse instrumentation and whipping out comparisons to everyone from Clap Your Hands Say Yeah to Broken Social Scene to Fleet Foxes to Arcade Fire (is it just me or do these bands have very little in common? aside from the fact that they are all good? which, may be the whole point) and swearing upon their keyboards that they are most definitely one of the bands to watch in 2009.

Then, just as you’re deciding that sure you MAY give these dudes a chance, let us just add this in:
They covered Talking Heads.
Blasphemous? Probably.
Brave? Definitely.
Reassuring when considering their music tastes and influences? Absolutely.

for more:
check them out on the myspace and then tonight in VA or tomorrow in DC. your call.
