Jealous Girlfriends are playing The Cat tonight (Monday!) with Kevin Devine.
I have been listening to songs from their upcoming "Good Fences" LP and you know what, they were moody and stormy in all the right ways, and I was like: Lets feature them! Spotlight them! Discover them!
(this song, is actually called "I quit", but whatever it is called, I like it!)
... but then by the time I got around to emailing their pr people, it turned out they were already discovered. I mean, just check out what these (significantly more legit) media operations had to say about them:
![]() |
New York Times: JEALOUS GIRLFRIENDS The Jealous Girlfriends, one of the best new bands in New York, float through soft and erotic clouds of guitar and keyboards that can turn grungy and turbulent” (Sisario)
New York Magazine “ An impressive, unsigned local quartet distinguished by its shimmering, synthy melodies and fresh vocal sound” Billboard “...the Jealous Girlfriends have honed and refined their raw craft, a Spoon-like modern twist on guitar rock” |
I mean, all these people must be onto something, right?
(they are)
So, we set up an interview and a little exclusive stream bonanza just for you (the album comes out in April)
The interview is, hands down, the shortest interview we ever did (Henry Rollins and Albert Hammond Jr. nonewithstanding) but then: Hey, if you seemlessly genre hop like these kids do, all the while maintaining a sense of humor you can let the music speak for itself.

BYT: So, you guys, we've been listening to your record, and then naturally we Wikipediaed you. And we saw all the usual stuff: The Gray's anatomy song, the Ipod Nano video win....is there ANYTHING that should be there and isn't? Alex has a son named Oliver. BYT: Same source also compares your music to Edit Piaf, Blur AND Billy Holliday. What say you to that? cool! BYT: How wold you describe Jealous Girlfriends to people that have never heard them? we're fun and eat a lot |
BYT: That basically describes us as well. What is a song you wish Jealous Girlfriends could claim as their own?
House Of The Rising Sun
BYT: So, you all started out like a duet and now are a quartet. Any more expansion plans, or this is it?
No
BYT: Who wears the pants in the band?
The pants get passed around.

BYT: How are you dealing with the road? What are the van arrangements? Who is the messiest? us and kevin and his guitarist are sharing a van. its fun, really cozy. Alex is the messiest. BYT: Tell us a dirty Kevin Devine secret. Something that would make his girlfriend jealous, preferably. He's a lying, freak ass reptoid BYT: Good to know. Have you played DC before? yes, we played the warehouse next door a while ago |
BYT: That place is no more
Too bad.
BYT: Its a Monday show. Everyone in DC has a day job and is notoriously sleepy by 10 and unable to dance (or so they say). What secrets do you have up your sleeve to make the night magical?
Its not the tricks thats up our sleeves, but these tricks betweens these knees
BYT: The buzz is building....on a scale from 1 to 10, how high is your buzz?
i'm pretty buzzed right now
BYT: How high do you expect the buzz to be after we run this?
The future is unknown
BYT: How much buzz is too much buzz? Whose buzz is hurting them?
They're our friends so we can't comment
BYT: Would you say you meet the expectations?
Sometimes
BYT: And finally, a message for the fans?
We love you
BYT: Awwwww

and finally, finally, we made them do one of those "blogosphere" surveys (since we're mature like that) to see just how JEALOUS THEY ARE. Every question had the following answer options:

Not sure
