Baby Huey was a psych/soul artist from Chicago who was a popular live act throughout the 60s, is adored by rock critics, and an influential and often sampled figure in hip hop, yet his sole album wasn't even released till after his death. During it's production by Curtis Mayfield on his own Curtom label, Baby Huey passed away in a hotel room from being a 400 pound fat ass and addicted to heroin. It was released soon after as The Baby Huey Story: The Living Legend and even if it may not quite have been finished, it's still an essential soul record for those in the know. Here's Mighty Mighty Children, which I think Mayfield actually wrote. Fun fact, his backup band The Babysitters continued on for a bit, without much success, with a teenaged Chaka Khan on vocals.

God loves a cheerful giver.
it's funk, not soul. Soul is different, Cale.

looks like you got a lot of commenting to do on the internets to correct all those errors...
i guess when you're citing sources like amazon.com, wikipedia, and itunes who are we to question your journalistic integrity?
ya moss, you're definitely correct in expecting a high degree of journalistic integrity from a website that specializes in photos of drunk hipsters
Jesus Christ...
indeed most of this stuff written by random hacks of questionable erudition. This track is an old school funk in its purest, I swear
OMG are we really arguing about this?
Moss, let me point out all the ways you are dum.
First, I never said Ernest was incorrect, I was trying to make the point that every web site I could find lists him as a soul man in some way or another thus he has a lot of correction commenting to do. Also notice I never actually used the word soul when describing the specific track that I chose, only the artist and the album. You also conveniently ignored the 3 other sources I cited. Here are a few more:
"Amazing Soul-Funk masterpiece from the very early seventies" -discogs
"a gift for crooning intimate soul confessions" -Tom Moon
is that enough cred for you? There are 102,000 pages returned from google on "baby huey soul". You're actually putting me down for citing wikipedia as a source on the proper genre of music? Have you ever been to wikipedia? It's like a music genre nerds wet dream. When you were typing your little baby dick comment did it make you feel all smart and shit putting down those oh so mainstream sources? Seriously, what is wrong with you?
Oh and Dan, you should know better.
for the record, i thought my bullshit response was way more approriate than cale's well thought out one
Yeah, you're right. Sorry.
