Brightest Young Things

I recently finished reading A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail by Bill Bryson. I can't recommend this book enough, it's truly wonderful. And for some reason it made me think of this song.

Arthur Russell’s roster of collaborations and genre hopping is unparalleled, from Phillip Glass to David Byrne, from minimalist to disco, over a career of 20 years. Yet it wasn’t till about a decade after his tragic death at age 40 that he received the most attention, through a series of re-releases and unearthed gems, a remix by DFA, a feature length documentary, a tribute by Jens Lekman, and numerous drops in various Optimo mixes. In fact this track, one of his best, was mostly overlooked when it was officially released posthumously in 1994, but a re-release in 2006, it’s appearance in a T-Mobil commercial, a video by artist Johanna Billing, and the recent inclusion in the phenomenal Sleepwalk mix has brought it back into the limelight. But enough back story, just enjoy This Is How We Walk On the Moon.
