Sometimes we spend the weekend eating too much BBQ and wearing too many fake mustaches to actually make sure we have a legit Monday feature.
Sometimes also, Lou Reed decides to not be interviewed by us.
Its ok, we still love him.
However in those situations, we’ve decided we’re going to do this: a nice little day-by-day show rundown for the week, including bands we may not get a chance to do proper interviews/previews with, featuring youtube clips, mp3s, imeem streams and other things that make life worth living.
So, get ready to drown in some music:
Monday
Constantines are at RNR Hotel. They are releasing their new album any second now (if you live in Canada, you can already own it) on Arts and Crafts but most importantly they are EVERYWHERE these days with their awesome cover of “Islands in the stream” also featuring Feist.
I am obsessed with it in all sorts of ways.
Listen here:
download here:
“Islands In the Stream” MP3 just for you.
also with them: Oakley Hall’s true blue Americana:
++++++++++++++++
and if you are in the mood for something different: Etran Finatawa’s Niger soul finds its way to Iota. (side note: Monday night is also half off wine night at Iota so even if there isn’t the most amazingly unmissable African nomad music act to pass through DC this month playing, its still worth a visit)

Tuesday
Lou Reed has been sold out at 930 Club for WEEKS. Do we really need to write something? Here are some MP3s, just for good measure, though please go ahead, and tell me which ones I should have made available
Venus in Furs MP3
Perfect Day MP3
Dirty Boulevard MP3
On a completely separate note, the little Scandinavian dance night that could, HEJ HEJ is back at St.EX and since I’ve been looking for any chance I can to play the new Lykke Li video, I will use this opportunity to do so.
Wednesday

have yourself (respectively) an old fashionedly rocking good time with:
Tapes’n'Tapes “Hang Them All” MP3
+
Foals “Balloons” MP3

Locksley “Why Not Me” MP3
Thursday
French Kicks and Ravens and Chimes are at RNR Hotel. We have done a listening party with the latter which you can listen through here, and we just interviewed Josh from French Kicks, so look forward to that but in the meantime take these and run with them:
“Trial of The Century” MP3 (from 2004’s eponymous album)
and
“Abandon” MP3 (from this year’s “Swimming”)
also, same night only at Lisner be ready for the miracle that Zakir Hussain is:
