Autechre, a British duo consisting of Rob Brown and Sean Booth makes (dance) music that defies classification of any kind.
People have called them abstract (especially on the later albums).
People have called them cold and austere.
People have called them too cerebral.
But people have also danced to them. A lot.
It certainly does sound different that anything you’re ever heard and heartbreakingly beautiful at times.
Pioneers of what has become widely known as IDM (Intelligent dance Music) they produce songs that are the very definition of “beautiful chaos”: complex rhythms, indefinite loops and twirls and a process of constant transition.

They just released their new album Quaristice this winter/spring on Warp Records, and are arriving to the Black Cat tonight to well, blow your mind.
We were denied an interview (”they’re not much of talkers, especially when on tour“) but the label kindly sent us a few songs to play for you and if you are interested in what Rob has to say about the new record go: here and then don’t miss tonight.

Do you actually like them or are you just doing your journalistic duty? If it’s the former, I was curious if you have any marriage plans ;)

I saw them in like 2000 or 2001 at 930. I’m a huge fan but I have to say the live show was sort of boring. Staring at the back of their laptops is really not exciting. It was danceable but I didn’t dance back then so the boringness was mostly my own fault (no drugs either?!) Their music is amazing with visuals so hopefully they’ll have some of that going on this time.

I have no journalistic duty but to write about thing I actually like.
Having said that, Warp dude informed me that the band will be performing in “complete darkness”.
So, not quite sure as to where the visuals stand will be.
