Slumberland records, the little (originally from DC) label that could and would, is celebrating their 20th year anniversary at the Cat this Friday. There will be a big, multi part feature on them and their bands later this week but until then we're going to run a vintage Slumberland video a day.
In 1990 Slumberland released the first single from Velocity Girl and worked with them up until 1993 when they released a compilation of their hit singles entitled simply "6 Song Compilation CD" (which included the seminal "My Forgotten Favorite"). At the time Velocity Girl had no video made ever (those came later with singles like "I Can't Stop Smiling", "Crazy Town" and "Nothing") but I was able to unravel this moment of them on the stage of old 930 club, circa 1990 with Kelly Riles front and center singing "Not at All".
A delicious, little bit of DC music history if there ever was one.
God loves a cheerful giver.
thanks for this. Small correction (and you can make it and un-publish this comment if you want), but it's Bridget Cross whose the singer. She went on to be in Unrest and Air Miami (on Teenbeat). Kelly Riles was the second guitarist.
"who's the singer" - jesus, that's embarrassing, but then it's 7:30 am...
I stand corrected. Thank you. For all Slumberland fans-you should keep your eyes peeled for Rick's amazing feature on the label coming later this week
