Svet asked me to finish off her "60s Soul Philosophy" video week. I'm not really sure what that means... and she's posted stuff from the 70s... but I've been listening to Bill Withers all week, so I think I'm in the clear. Bill never gets as much credit as some of his contemporaries, and you probably know more songs of his than you realize. Check out this jaw dropping video from the Old Grey Whistle Test, an influential BBC music prgram that ran through the 70s and 80s with an impressive roster of performances such as Talking Heads, The Police, The Specials, the first UK television appearance of Bob Marley, and many others. There is a great DVD out there collecting a lot of these that's def worth your time. Anyway, one of my favs has always been this Bill Withers performance of Ain't No Sunshine. Let's point out thehighlights: his turtleneck sweater, the most amazingly laid back funky mother fucking bad ass backing band in the history of time, and how sweaty he is. Oh, and his voice is so amazing it makes me wish he was my dad.
God loves a cheerful giver.
...good...CALL.
