Brightest Young Things

A few minutes with Junior League's lovely Lissy Rosemont and she will inevitably turn the conversation to one of her musical loves. Her passion for an act gracing our area this evening (The Wood Brother) so inspired her that she even took the time to list out the 10 Reasons why they are not to be missed!

woodbros

1. Because their song, "Up Above My Head," has been on repeat for about 10 months straight now.

2. Hands down, Oliver Wood is the best male vocalist of our generation.

3. Oliver and Chris are brothers. I love family bands.

4. These are white guys with SOUL.

5. Chris Wood is the "Wood" in Medeski, Martin, and Wood- legends in their own right.

6. Because Oliver actually knew of my Dad and his music from the Atlanta Blues scene. Nobody, outside of Fat Matt's Rib Shack and the Northside Tavern, ever knows him!

7. Harmonies, Harmonies, Harmonies make the world go round.

8.  Because Oliver named his baby "Levon"- we share admiration for Mr. Levon Helm.

9. Because I met them at the Levon Helm Midnight Ramble in Woodstock- one of the finest events in American Rock music.

10. Because they have another Atlanta legend, Joe McGuiness, on the road with them.

The Brothers will be out in the burbs at Jammin Java tonight and Lissy adds: "Yes, Vienna Virginia is far far away in a land down Highway 95 for us DC kiddos. BUT, its doable with a bike from the metro, or hitching rides! Hey, you can even use the comment space below to get carpools! I'll be there- March 17 Wednesday at Jammin Java- the Wood Brothers. Join me!"

Big news in Junior Leagueville as well as you can catch them this Friday at The Rock and Roll Hotel with David Wax Museum and Lightfoot and Lissy had plenty of exciting info to share:

"Just this month Junior League Band was reached out to by Jay-Z & Dave Matthews lawyer (he found JLB's music online and loved it- particularly the locally shot video for "Gin" ), which called for a trip to New York City to talk music with him." The band is getting ready to record their new album "JellyRoll" on Lissy's record label, Beaver Records, which should be released in July and features Levon Helm's horn players so expect lots of new songs in the set. They just signed with a national booking agent so expect even more from the road tales!

Here is a peek at the most recent JBL Video Blog from a few weeks ago including a fun Everly Brothers sing along with the Avett Brother's Dad, Jim Avett, and JLB live clips from Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia tours:

God loves a cheerful giver.
