A column ressurection. In which Nina watch trailers of and passes judgement on movies coming out this Friday.
Seven Pounds

In this movie, Will Smith plays a troubled man (Hey Oscar! Over here!) who will do something MAJOR to seven people and DRASTICALLY change their circumstances. My guess is he has a SECRET past and ULTERIOR motives and SEX with Rosario Dawson. Apparently, one truth will be revealed. Also, Will Smith will contemplate serious issues on a beach and wear a bathing suit. It’s called “Seven Pounds” because that’s how much an Oscar statuette weighs. Um.
The Wrestler

In what’s being hailed as Mickey Rourke’s second-coming, the actor/boxer plays a troubled ex-wrestler (Hey Oscar! Over here!) who is forced into retirement after a heart attack. He tries to revitalize his washed-up career by rematching an old foe. Hilarity ensues! Just kidding. Self-reflection ensues. From what I hear, Rourke’s performance is incredible. Also stars Marisa Tomei as his friendly more-than-friend stripper and Evan Rachel Wood as his estranged less-than-friend daughter.
The Curious Case of Benjaman Button

[I'm cheating here. This doesn't come out until Christmas. I'm just too excited.] Personally, this is the movie I have been most anticipating all year. Loosely based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s short story, Brad Pitt plays a man who ages in reverse (Hey Oscar! Over here!). His body is a cage (get it?!?) that keeps him from being with the one he loves (the always awesome Cate Blanchett). This one should have a lot of special effects and make-up tricks up its sleeve, so I’m looking forward to seeing those. Beautiful trailer, if only because of Arcade Fire.
Yes Man
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uRv4CoXQoAQ
In this hunk o’ comedy, Jim Carrey plays a dude who says no to everything (Hey Oscar! Oh wait…nevermind.), but then goes to a seminar and says yes to everything! Haha! He takes Korean! He goes to costume parties! He does a weird thing on rollerblades! He meets Zooey Deschanel (Why Zooey? Why?!)! I’m going to go out on a limb here and guess that he ends up loving his yes-life waaaay more than his no-life. And then he’ll be like, “Hey Zooey, thanks for showing me how to live!” and Zooey will be like, “Yeah no problem. Listen to my CD, it’s so good and a better use of time than this movie!” End scene.
Next week: Bedtime Stories, Valkyrie, Marley & Me, The Spirit, Last Chance Harvey

‘yes man’ looks a lot like ‘liarliar.’
