All words by: Alan and Matt who will be covering the festival for you
Alan: It's mid-June which can mean only one thing for movie buffs like me, Silverdocs (the epic documentary film festival June 15-22) will dominate our free time for the next few days. This year's program offers a wide variety of features and shorts, ranging from the topical to the trivial. Matt, is there any documentary you're particularly excited to see?
Matt: Yeah, I think this crop is particularly strong, many of which I look forward to providing me with a strong sense of social justice just by sitting in the theater. So besides all of the genocide, I'm really itching to see Best Worst Movie.

Alan: Good call on Best Worst Movie. There are a number of "issue" docs this year - globalization, war zones, and the gang violence are some of the many topics. Yet in the midst of all this social justice, the movie for which I'm most excited is Winnebago Man. Not a week goes by when I say some quote from that hilarious internet meme. Why do you suppose these docs interest us more than, say, Blood Trail?

Matt: Compassion fatigue? The inundation with these types of stories on a 24 hour news cycle? We are both really shallow?
Alan: More likely the former than anything else. That being said, I really look forward to seeing Crude on Tuesday. (Crude info & Showtimes) Directed by Joe "Metallica: Some Kind of Monster" Berlinger, it focuses on the legal battle between environmental activists and Exxon in Ecuador. Given Berlinger's past work with legal documentaries (Paradise Lost and its sequel), this one promises to be one of the more observant, even-handed political documentaries.
Matt: Have you heard anything about Bradley Beesley's Sweethearts of the Prison Rodeo? Beesley is a longtime flaming lips collaborator who worked with them on the infamous Christmas on Mars
Sweethearts of the Prison Rodeo info & Showtimes
Alan: The premise is certainly intriguing. Docs set in prison are among the most probing - I wonder if prisoners are more candid given their unfortunate circumstance. On a completely unrelated note, just how excited are you for CAT LADIES?
Matt: I am hoping it finally helps break the stigma and gives a voice to this otherwise silenced population. My vote for the bravest film of the festival
Alan: Agreed. As the festival continues, Matt and I will provide short reviews of the docs we manage to catch. Be sure to check our updates! And go see Winnebago Man. Thanks, Matt!

God loves a cheerful giver.
