THIS landed in my inbox from BYT "core" member (Hey - I don't mind owning up to this ::ja), per excitement talk about tonight's start of Twin Peaks nights @ Velvet Lounge.
God, episode one is so fucking good. It has *everything*:
1. "Wrapped - /in plastic/!"
2. Andy constantly crying
3. Federal Bureau of Investigations Special Agent Dale Cooper intro, talking into his tape recorder about pie
4. Crazy Mrs. Palmer freaking out everywhere
5. Super tear-jerker phone call to Laura's dad as the cops are pulling up
6. Super tear-jerker announcement of Laura's death over the school PA
7. Super tear-jerker shutdown of the mill / "Pete, push the plug."
8. "Jump-starting the old man again?"
9. God, other stuff I'm totally forgetting
I think if I watch it in a room where people are being drunk/talking/not really getting into it emotionally I'll just get angry though. I hate that, it's like when you play your favorite song for your girlfriend and then halfway through she just pulls some ADD crap and starts talking about some stupid thing her cat did that morning.
So-lets get serious: do you OWN the pilot episode? Do you prefer the season 1 to season 2? Why is Agent Dale Cooper the only non-boring truly good character of fiction EVER? Do you secretly love "Fire walk with me" too? Which is your favorite episode? Sherilyn Fenn or Laura Flyn Boyle? Can you actually watch this show in a group of bigger than 4 people?
Come, on-open up.
It will only hurt a little.
God loves a cheerful giver.
Addendum:
Except for the pilot, I actually prefer season two. Some reasons:
1. MAJOR BRIGGS comes into his own
2. Windom Earle, obvs
3. Much more interesting Audrey Horne
4. Appearance of The Giant
5. Crazy insane crazy finale left me shaking the first time I saw it
6. Appearance of wide-eyed Heather Graham pre-sluttiness
7. Crrrrrazy Ben Horne
Seriously season two is for real lets watch it
<3 <3 <3 <3
"Fire Walk With Me" sucked, skip it.
@jason
I actually ONLY own season 2. Maybe because I think it is better and maybe because I cannot deal with season 1 after all the nightmares Bob gave me.
I do stand behind the theory that more people should give season 2 more credit. If for nothing else, than for the fact that something like Twin Peaks survived for long enough in America to see Season 2 happen.
Greatest tv show ever made.
sorry, this show is like bizarro 24 where nothing happens over a period of years but the acting is great.
i prefer wild palms, at least it openly embraced its cheesiness.
and John from Cincinnati because...well just because wtf?
Ok no joke FWWM is retarded.
Svetlana who's your favorite character for me it's major briggs and also audrey horne
I only want to watch Twin Peaks in a fort on the floor of our library in milwaukee while there is a lightening storm over lake michigan. WITH a babysitter
The previously unavailable pilot episode is now included in the super Gold Box Set edition!
i always really liked the one-eyed lady that was obsessed with blinds. and the lucy/andy dynamic.
this right here is why I have never watched the show.
I loved, and will continue to love "Fire Walk With Me".
Did anyone ever buy the "Diary of Laura Palmer" the book written by David Lynch's daughter?
(who then went on to direct that "Boxing Helena" movie that Kim Basinger pulled out of and had Sherylin Fenn cut up and boxed by Julian Sands).
are any of these comments serious?
first, there's WAY too much wailing in the pilot, she died, you cried, i get it
second, i'm not sure exactly where the seasons split, but everything after the murder is solved in season two (which i call season 3) is pretty bad, especially heather graham's acting ... although i haven't finished it yet (6 discs!) and i'm not quite sure how the midget dancing on the bed is gonna fit in
third, Hawk is by far the best character, hands down. i'm gonna name my dog after him
A couple of my friends and i started watching this on found VHS a few years ago, i still don't quite know what to think of this new resurgance. also, i think all the episodes are available for streaming (along with QUANTUM LEAP) on the CBS website.
I think rewatching this at a bar would be fun, but for the first time, no way.
finally, the david lynch daily weather report http://www.davidlynch.com/dailyreport/
me. right when it came out. I think I still have the copy. But after reading it, I almost lost interest in the series. it was dreadful.
YES. I also had the Dale Cooper Tapes.
Becca seriously what is your problem
I had that book in Serbian. I always wondered whether it was horrible because something was lost in translation or because it was truly horrible. I guess the latter.
I am the proud owner of the Gold DVD set as well as the VHS tapes (including the pilot which was a pain in the ass to find for a long time), the diary (which is a spooky read if done after having watched everything 8 times), Fire Walk With Me (fine), press shots of Cooper, Truman and donuts and more importantly a tape from a performance of my college band where my roommate gives a blow by blow of the people in the club to "Diane" while you can hear us playing in the background. Watching this when it was first broadcast was bizarre (and maddening when it was off for awhile before coming back) but seeing the show now it is even stranger.
Just the audio alone stands as landmark television. When was the last time you heard a real pee your pants scream on TV or had white noise blasted at you? The fact that this all draped over a complex murder mystery with gorgeous soap opera backdrops makes it all the more incredible.
The show really has to be viewed in pin drop silence to get your proper spook on though.
Also: doled out 2-3 episodes at a time, not all in one bunch. You have to build suspense and let yourself love the characters. Takes a summer, more or less.
OMG I almost forgot about this: Jack Nance eventually died when he got into a fight at a DONUT SHOP. How Jim Morrison:

i tried posting this twice from work and it disappeared, not sure what happened.
First: Hawk is by far the best character. This isn't even debatable. I'm gonna name my dog after Hawk.
Second: Everything in the 2nd season after they solve Laura's murder is pretty disappointing. They also don't give a shit and there are boom mics in the shots and stuff.
Third: @pedro - there's a lot of really bad acting in TP @jason bond ESPECIALLY Heather Graham.
Fourth: Zooey Deschanel's father directed a couple episodes, and her mom is the lady in the wheel chair, which totally figures.
Fifth: You can stream every episode (along with Quantum Leap) on CBS
Finally, David Lynch daily weather http://www.davidlynch.com/dailyreport/
sorry for the multiposting, that was weird
Anyone ever notice that the cast could be characterized as a West Side Story (1961) reunion, with both Richard Beymer and Ryss Tamblyn playing key roles? It also borrows heavily from the look and feel of the films Payton Place (1957) and Return to Payton Place (1961), as well as the TV series that followed them in '64. You get the idea that something forged Lynch's psychosexual identity right around 1961.
Best character? Tough call to make. Agent Cooper has the most depth and nuance, but Jerry Horne was the most hilarious character, to wit, "As your lawyer, your brother, and your friend ... I highly recommend that you get a better lawyer."
That being said, who wouldn't want to share a few maraschino cherries with Audrey Horne?
Season 1 is my favorite.
i still haven't finished season 2 cause i think it sucks.
i'll give it another shot...but not anytime soon.
i would love to watch this at a bar.
*silent drape runners*
another show that i enjoy more than TP, and it's all on hulu for freeeee
http://www.hulu.com/watch/4812/american-gothic-pilot
wow. again. played. we did this three years ago at the wonderland. plus, we had pie. do you have pie?
kat, i remember. i used to come. and coffee. there was always coffee. everything comes in cycles, i guess
@kat This isn't a BYT thing, not sure who's doing it. If it was us we'd hire midgets and have costumes. I remember that too, though - actually those were my TP DVDs, I think Corey mailed them back from Germany! Awesome.
Ok, one super bad thing about season 2: JAMES. Actually, James is the worst character of the whole show, every scene I cringe. The whole side story with him on the road shacking up with the cuckholding, murderous wife is just weird.
jason bond wins the big prize .... James is a pussy.
the agoraphobic orchid growing character is also totally useless
Oh Jason, I never thought this was a BYT event. I know to expect midgets from you by now.
