Real American Hero

Real American Hero

If you haven’t heard yet (as in, you’re a girl) they’re making a live action GI Joe movie.  Even though I was a pretty avid collector of the toys in the 80’s, I remember discussing with my best friend on a regular basis how I thought the Transformers and He-Man cartoons were way more realistic (?).  And well, I don’t think it’s coming out till like Aug 2009 or something, and it’s directed by Stephen Sommers, who brought us such gems as Van Helsing and The Mummy Returns, but still, the little boy inside of me (and outside of me) is pretty excited.  And look, I just found some photos!

scarlett

Scarlett!  Hm.  I liked her original 70’s style outfit better, plus a crossbow is way hotter:

Next up:

duke

Duke!  I think.  Um.  Ok.

hotgirl

Some hot girl!

black

The black guy!

quaid

Dennis Quaid as Hawk!  Rad!

snakeeyes

Probably my fav Joe ever - Snake Eyes - played by Ray Parks, the guy who was Darth Maul in Star Wars Episode I: Jar-Jar Bink’s Jungle Adventure.  He looks pretty seriously bad assical.  Yikes!

storm

Storm Shadow and The Baroness.   I think Storm Shadow looks super rad in his white trenchcoat and fingerless gloves.  I really want that trenchcoat.  Baroness has potential, except, where are her nerdy librarian glasses?  She is the reason I love nerdy girls to this day.  Bring back the glasses pleeeeeease.

Other baddies that are slated to appear: Destro, Cobra Commander, and my favorite: Zartan.  Fucker changed color in sunlight and came with a green scootermobile and a box!!(?)

Phew.  Ok.  I’m all geeked out, enjoy your weekend!

Snake-Eyes’ muscles look super fake, like a halloween Captain America costume or something. Storm Shadow and the Baroness look cool as hell though.

i’m pretty sure this movie doesn’t need to be made. i hate feeling like a guinea pig. just because i’m between 17-35 and i grew up playing with g.i. joes doesnt mean i wanna throw another $11.25 your way, mister marketing manager of the society of “cool.” and somebody please do us all a favor and put mr. quaid out of his misery.

Dear Slim,

You’re, um, posting on a web-site that’s primary purpose is marketing “cool”. Also, Dennis Quaid has made some fine movies in the past few years. I dare you not to like “In Good Company.” I agree with you about the movie though– the costumes look low rent.

1. “Inner Space”
2. I always thought Storm Shadow was the dumbest character ever. Wasn’t he one of the “new” characters?
3. HOW CAN THEY FORGET THE REFRIGERATOR PERRY?!?!

Still kickin’:

I think we should do an interview with the ‘Fridge, about how he’s not in this movie.

I totally sent away for my fridge perry figure, he came with some sort of football attached to a chain. Oh yeah, remember when Sgt Slaughter went Iraqi to protest the gulf war or something like that? Also I remember sending away for a Joe that was supposed to be YOU! Basically you filled out all this info and you got a generic looking figure with a helmet on and a card with all your stats on it. Didn’t quite live up to my expectations.

And if he gets to mix pleasure with a good career move now and then, so be it. That’s the scenario with joining the cast of the big-screen adaptation of “G.I. Joe.” He’ll play the pivotal role of General Hawk, the behind-the-scenes leader of the international special forces group.

“It’s not deep,” Quaid admits. “I mean, the character of General Hawk that I’m playing is really kind of a cross between Chuck Yeager and Sergeant Rock and maybe a naïve Hugh Hefner thrown in there.”

Quaid laughs when asked if he’s going to keep the character’s trademark flattop saying, “I don’t think so. I mean I’m special forces. I can do anything I want. So, I’m thinking about actually kind of going a little blond, Robert Redford-ish type of thing.”

But what about the hardcore fans, Dennis? Aren’t you afraid of a backlash if you stray too far from what they expect?

“General Hawk’s aide … is a Victoria’s Secret supermodel,” Quaid says. “I mean, how serious can it be?”
