Since you have no choice but to stay in and watch all the movies in the world (poor us, I know) we figured we’d suggest some appropriate snow day cinematic suggestions. Ready? OK.
SNOW DAY
Predictable choice-sure.
But anything featuring Chevy Chase, Pam Grier AND Iggy Pop in the same place-is a-ok day.
No school, no rules.
MURDER ON ORIENT EXPRESS
A snowed in train, a murder mistery, Hercules Poirot and a cast of suspect featuring everyone from Ingrid Bergman to Lauren Bacall. Probably one of the finest thrillers ever made.
MISERY
James Caan gets “rescued” by his #1 fan Kathy Bates after a snow storm. Let the “healing” begin. MISERY CHASTAINE CANNOT BE DEAD! If you were contemplating driving today, this should be enough to make you walk right back to your couch.
JUST FRIENDS
Theoretically a Chrismtas movie (all of which will otherwise we left off this list since this is a snow list and not a holiday one) BUT the collective comic timing power of Ryan Reynolds and Anna Farris (America’s great unsung comedienne) is enough to make you want to watch this all the time, no matter what the time of the year/weather conditions.
COOL RUNNINGS
First Jamaican bobsled team is trying to make it to the Olympics. With the help of John Candy. And absolutely no snow in sight.
ALIVE
Hope no one has a flight scheduled over the Andes with their team mate today.
SKI SCHOOL
Boobs.
MIRACLE
The ultimate ice-skating sports movie. America learns how to work and play hockey as a team with some help of Kurt Russell. If you don’t tear up during the “Who do you play for part?” you have no soul.
CUTTING EDGE
The ultimate ice-skating “sports” movie-Moira Kelley stars as the snotty figure skater, DB Sweeney is the hockey player recruited to be her partner (She has scared and scarred everyone else away). Sparks fly all over ice surfaces.
Your suggestions now:
does anyone else remember the forgotten genius of Ski Patrol?

This movie was played incessantly on Comedy Central during my formative years.

@Matt My dad bought me a talking TurboMan action figure years ago – I love that damn thing! Plus, any movie with Sinbad, Arnold AND Phil Hartman is fantastic.
December 20, 2009 at 10:19 pmWatched Ang Lee’s The Ice Storm yesterday. “Next stop: New CAAAAAAAAAANAN ConneCticut! New CAAAAAAAAAANAN ConneCticut!”
Also, Dr. Zhivago is the perfect snow day movie. Grab a bottle of vodka and bask in the bleakness. “It’s a miserable time to be alive.”
