It is a lean free movie week in DC, what with Psychotronics still on break, most outdoor movie series coming to an end, most of the galleries taking that one lazy August week off, and half of DC being out of town. Still, as a high brow bonus: Shakespeare's free-for-all happens this week and there is still a couple of things going on and you should aim to seize them:
TUESDAY
John Hughes Memorial Film Series @ Asylum has 2 more nights left and today is a double feature whammy with "Pretty in Pink" (which already played 25 times at assorted parks this week) and "Weird science", which is, probably, the John Hughes movie you NEED to revisit.
WEDNESDAY
The Stead Pakr movie series closes out with Meet the Parents the mostly ill-natured romp in which Robert DeNiro gets to torture Ben Stiller because Ben Stiller wants to marry his daughter, Teri Polo and Bob just doesn't like that, one bit. Funny at times, but mostly painful.
THURSDAY
John Hughes Memorial Film Series @ Asylum closes out today with "Ferris Beuller's Day Off". Lets all go to Chicago.
FRIDAY
Death Note II @ Japanese Cultural Center (at 6:30 pm, you need to RSVP)
Brief synopsis: Following on the heels of the first Death Note movie, Light Yagami joins the investigation of the serial killer known as “Kira,” while also trying to uncover L’s real name so he can kill him with his Death Note. L suspects that Light is Kira, but a new rash of murders are taking place around the world, with a “Second Kira” claiming responsibility. When Light learns the identity of the Second Kira, he suggests they join forces to get rid of L. Will L be able to catch Kira before he is killed?
And the Rosslyn Gateway park "I Love the 80s" film series closes out with "Meatballs" tonight, featuring Bill Murray at his 1979 best.
SUNDAY
Spike'd Cinema closes out with OLD SCHOOL (the whole day costs 10 bucks but what with the free burger involved, it does kind of amount to a free movie)
DID I MISS SOMETHING? (I hope I did)
Let me know.
God loves a cheerful giver.
