Brightest Young Things

Surely, all your cinematic going efforts this week will be focused on seeing THE ORPHAN, a movie with a spoiler ending so amazingly ridiculous that you almost need to know it to want to see it. Having said that, its a really, really good week for free cinematic fun in DC so you may want to consider spending NO MONEY on seeing something.

Handy, print and/or mail to your friends guide is below.
Click on links for further details.

MONDAY
Screen on the Green continues this week with Dog Day Afternoon in which Al Pacino has a tranny girlfriend and robs a bank. There is obviously (way) more to it but I feel that is all you need to know.

Arligton Cinema and Drafthouse hosts their $1 movie night, just like they do every Monday, and while you may not be into the 7pm screening of "Angels and Demons", I think that Sam Raimi's "Drag me to Hell" may be worth the trip.

TUESDAY
WPFS continues its awesomeness and brings us Hellhole, for which I could not find a trailer but the poster is almost worth as much.

In addition to that, The Castle of Caligostro, a movie Steven Spielberg called one of the greatest adventure movies ever made is at the Japanese Cultural Center today. Movie starts at 6:30 and reservations are required

WEDNESDAY
NOMA Summer screen closes out with a bang and probably my personal most favorite music documentary of all time: Dig! (screening at dusk, but bbq at 7) in which Brian Jonestown Massacre and The Dandy Warhols face off over 7 years of almost fame. DON'T MISS THIS.

Also tonight: The Wes Anderson series @ Asylum continues with Life Aquatic

THURSDAY
If you're in the mood for some Japanese mature violence, look no further and head to Versus @ Freer Sackler

while everyone who decides to have an impromptu girls' night should bike their way over to see Dirty Dancing @ Tingey Plaza. "Be My Baby" by the Ronettes, which is used in the trailer, is literally my second favorite jukebox song of all time.

FRIDAY
Want more 80s fun? Another Friday, another classic over in Arlington: E.T. is showing @ Rosslyn Gateway Park

while the Hong Kong Film Festival continues with All About Women @ Freer Sackler which you can also see on Sunday at 2pm

And all that for 0 dollars.
Being frugal looks really good in DC.
If I missed something-let me know in the comments, ok?

God loves a cheerful giver.

Free Zombie Movies on Thursday at the Black Cat Backstage.

I have it on somewhat good authority that the movies will be FIDO and Dead Snow.

I have not seen Dead Snow - I was to see it at an outdoor camping rally earlier this year but we watched a Kung Fu movie instead since they couldn't find it on the harddrive.

FIDO is just plain damned good.

Second your comments on Dig!

Just wanted to say: great job getting this list complied and for keeping us informed. I will probably see 2-3 of these this week.
I second that Michael... FIDO is pretty good.
