Someone once left a comment:
“I think Jeff spends wayyyyyyyy too much time hanging around trashy, redneck joints.”
And that could be evidenced by several posts I’ve done in the past year or so: 1) Preakness Report: Beers, Boobs, Bubbas, and a Few Horses 2) Indy 500 Report.
And I didn’t even do a post on last year’s NASCAR race in Richmond. Although, I must admit, I think that the Virgin Festival in Baltimore last year was about as trashy as it can get (all those dirty TV on the Radio fans).
I’m not above high-brow events, either. In fact, I was going to hit Chincoteague to watch the Ponies swim across the ocean or whatever it is they do this coming weekend, but it’s nearly impossible to find even a camping spot out there. You can catch last year’s action here
And I was the first person to curse Neptune when I found out that the Volvo Ocean Race’s only stop in North America is going to be Boston for the 2008-2009 series. I was hoping Annapolis.
You can call me a redneck lover, but I’m really just a fan of events. Large concentrations of people. Makes for great people watching. And I can tell you, there’s no event like a WWE event. That is, if you’re into homoerotic, greased-up action with a lot of pyrotechnics and intricate storylines. I’ll hand it over to Libby for a play-by-play of our night of wrestling. But suffice it to say, I have a new sporting hero. And his name is Kofi Kingston. You heard it here first. He’s going to be the next Triple H
And now Libby will give you the rundown on the action (with photos)…
I love wrestling, as you may very well know. There are even a few pictures floating around the internet of me making out dressed up like Ultimate Warrior on Halloween. Needless to say when we scored WWE tickets I was PPUUMMPPEEDD!
To our delight the event was a double header, Saturday Night SmackDown and Monday Night Live. A lot happens in a back-2-back WWE taping. Let’s just saw there was a lot of Spandex ripped and pyrotechnics fired in the Verizon center to rival a botched Beijing opening ceremonies.
Some blasts from the past showed up to throw down like Hacksaw Jim Duggan (one of my favs).
The babes of the WWE also threw down…
… Really inspiring this future member of the league, nothing like a strong positive female role model for the girls:
Jenny McCarthy showed up to throw down against autism! Lookin’ good Jenny.
Then these huge dudes tore it up since one of them slept with the other’s wife. ZOMG!
Amid the torrent of violence and gratuitous display of illegally enhanced testosterone there were some tender displays of affection as Jeff and I befriended most of the children in our seating section:
Jeff even picked up some merch!
Did I mention that I adore wrestling fans?!
i will never understand wrestling, any type. or monster truck rallies. they attract the same group of people, no?
i was on the metro one time and there were all these kis with stuffed monster trucks, they had all gone on a family outing to the rally.
what’s funnier though, are the kids with stuffed doll versions of their favorite wrestlers.

August 22, 2008 at 11:31 amI saw wrestling when I was in Mexico City. It was in this old warehouse with tons of people, screaming and tossing shit, and security guards toting bullet-proof vests and assault rifles. Outside, they were selling masks from luchadores for like $1US. WWE has nothing on that spectacle.
August 22, 2008 at 12:06 pmFor the record, last year Jeff also made us go to the IRL:

I really don’t know what comes next.
But I am curious.
Check out the latest Nat. Geo for some chick wrestlers from like Argentina or something.
I know people who still think Wrestling is real.
