Because nothing beats that tangible joy of cracking a book open and losing yourself in a story for a few hours. Especially in this time of instant gratification working up to the climax over days and weeks is an art that is almost lost (if I see another person with a book on tape on their ipod I will shoot them and then myself, I swear-ed)
First Book’s newest 2008 campaign “What Book Got You Hooked?” (www.firstbook.org/whatbook) - - it’s a book lovers’ campaign from First Book that will bring thousands of new books to kids in need.
First Book is inviting readers everywhere to name the first book from childhood that made reading fun. Those who submit what book got them hooked on the website then vote for any state of their choice to receive 50,000 new books for low-income youth.
Staff and celebrity favorites (including everyone from Steven Colbert (Swiss Family Robinson!) to Barry Manilow (The Temple of Gold!) to Emma Thompson (The Hound of the Baskervilles) to Ira Glass (Franny and Zooey) can also be found on the website, all readers are encouraged to submit their own.
