This is one of influential animator Jan Svankmajer’s earliest and best works. I first saw it years ago at the Tate Modern on a tiny little screen with no sound and it had quite a profound effect on me. I jotted down some notes about it and once I got back to the states I tracked it down on the phenomenal Collected Shorts of Jan Svankmajer DVD. Once I watched it on a big screen with sound my head exploded twice. It goes from surreal creepy to surreal humorous and back again so many times it’s pretty much the closest you can get to dropping acid sober.
In my Netflix watch instant queue but haven’t seen it yet!

Oh shit! Thanks for posting this. For his less abstract work, check out “Little Otik,” a folk tale about a carnivorous log baby. Watch it instantly on Netflix!
