Listening to Tim Hecker in the dark with headphones changed my life. It is music that sounds like it was made by an ancient Martian civilization. I made my own video on the back of my eyelids.
He'll be at The Hexagon, a volunteer run art gallery and performance space located in the Station North Arts and Entertainment district of Baltimore, this Friday (11/20/2009) at 9pm.
This is one of 3 U.S. performances by Tim Hecker and Aidan Baker on this tour. No clue how it's gonna sound live, but dying to find out. Are you? Then comment below and let us know cause we've got a pair of tickets to give away.

TIM HECKER
The New York Times has described his work as “foreboding, abstract pieces in which static and sub-bass rumbles open up around slow moving notes and chords, like fissures in the earth waiting to swallow them whole”. His Harmony in Ultraviolet received critical acclaim, including being recognized by Pitchfork as a top recording of 2006.
Radio Amor was also recognized as a key recording of 2003 by Wire magazine.
AIDAN BAKER
“Baker experiments with guitar textures, tape loops and drum machines to create a thoroughly warming and textured listening experience.
There are echoes of the avant-shoegazers Windy and Carl or Labradford, or even Talk Talk/Bark Psychosis in places, resonances of post rock and hints at the dreamy ambience of Brian Eno or Stars of the Lid.”
ECSTATIC SUNSHINE
Now a solo project of Matt Papich featuring beautiful poppy processed guitar rhythms.
POLYGONS
Improv electronic duo of Miguel Sabogal and Josh Atkins. Driving kick drums, aggressive ride cymbals, obtuse 303 acid lines, and dark droning harmonies inside large cavernous spaces.

God loves a cheerful giver.
I saw Tim Hecker at the airwaves festival this year. So I can tell you exactly how it sounds: it's painful. I mean, it's physically painful. At times, you'll have the feeling that he pokes your ear drums with a sharp pencil from inside while your heart stops every time you are hit by a beat. Having this said, if you are able to stand this, you'll discover great beauty in his music in the moments when he relieves you from the pain. It's an exceptional music experience you won't forget so easily.
Now, this was a show based on his latest solo release. I haven't yet listened to his album with Aidan Baker and maybe the sound is a bit softer and the performance more gentle. I would still only recommend it to lovers of loud (very loud) electronic noise.
I was thinking about seeing Minus the Bear, but this would be way better!
i cannot even fucking wait
nihilstic: the Aiden and Tim duo is in fact softer, pulsating vibrating fucking genius. go go go!
It's gonna sound kick ass live!
hmm, when i saw tim at mutek it was serene and beautiful - nowhere close to painful, but that was nearly 2 years ago. on the other hand, the peter rehberg (pita) + marcus schmickler show we had at the hexagon a few months ago - that scarred my eardrums for life, in the best possible way.
I waited for 9 hours at the sonic circuit festival just to see him play and then he couldn't out of illness. He's is one of my 5 favorite artists of all time and I've never seen him live before.
His music makes me feel like
this, my body,
this is just the scaffolding
it fucking changes things... everything! i can feel my heart just stop, re-patterned beating, levitating. seriously. fuck. i am so goddamned excited.
